I plan on ordering either a Remington SPS or a Savage FP10 LE in .308. This rifle will be used almost exclusively with cast boolits.

The Remington has a 1 in 12 twist rate, the Savage has a 1 in 10. I would appreciate opinions from the "cast boolit brain trust" as to which rifle would best suit my needs. Thanks,

The more concentric the rifle is, the better it is. Considering both guns are equal in that regard, the 12 twist is more appropriate for the majority of projectiles. ... felix

Check the Savage again. Mine is a 1:12 twist in 308. All else being equal I prefer the Savage to the Remmy. (ducking as ingots are launched in my direction).:coffee:

Savage rifles are VERY popular in CBA production matches. That has to say something.

Both good, but I would go for the Sav every time. They shoot right out of the box, cost less, and I am cheap!

The Savage rifles have a very good reputation (as well as the Remington's). The Accu-trigger also has a good reputation of being light and safe. Another benefit of the Savage rifles is the barrels are easily changed (with the correct tools) without a visit to a gunsmith.

The rifling twist is dependent on the bullet length you are shooting. The faster twists will stabilize longer bullets.

I have both Savage and remington rifles. I would go with the Savage for it's 1 in 10 twist.
It will be better for the heavier boolits most likely. The most accurate rifle I own is a Savage 110gv in .223 rem.

Treetop-

You don't state what you plan to use the rifle for, but here goes my .02 worth.

As most have stated here, both rifles are about equal. The Rem a tad more expensive than the Savage. I've owned both and both shot equally well.

Flip a coin and buy one, scope it, shoot it, load for it, repeat as often as necessary. Read blogs like this one, "tons of great information here", and get informed what worked and didn't work for other shooting your caliber. Believe me, the .308 is quite versatile.

Good Luck, good shooting.

Thanks for all of the input, guys. Today I was able to compare the two rifles side by side at a local gun show. I'm going with the Savage Model 10FLCP in left hand.

I will almost exclusively shoot cast boolits in this rifle, mostly Lyman 311291, 311041, and 311332 boolits. Thanks again,
