--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm looking for a resonably priced bullet mold for 45/70 between 330-405 grains that uses a gas check. I really dont want to spend more than about $60. The bullets would be for use in a Marlin Guide Gun.
Thanks,
Jason

I've used the rcbs 300 and 405 GC and they shoot good in my Highwall. The 405 will kick like a mule when loaded over 1900 fps but will flatten most anything you shoot with it.The RD molds are said to be accurate and less expensive and made for Marlins. If you don't want to spend extra money they would probably be the way to go.

The Ranch Dog molds are very nice and reasonably priced. A great deal while available.

That said, I have problems with my Hornady crimp on gas checks not staying on the bullets worth a darn. I've got a .460 sizer for my Star and the checks just pass through with no effect as they are only .4595 average diameter out of the box. I quit using them and just shoot the cast with tumble lube and no checks. My Marlin likes them just fine up to about 1750 (450gr) and nearly 1900 (350gr). I download to about 1350 and 1500 respectively as I like to shoot and after thirty or forty of these at higher velocities my shoulder starts to complain.

Yup, you better Hurry to Ranch Dog's site before he closes up shop. You will be hard pressed to find a better Boolit for your Marlin. His molds were designed around the Lever actions.
