Got a good friend who recently bought a Pedersoli replica of the 1876 rifle and wants to shoot a 250 grain bullet out at around 1300 fps. Guess he's having trouble finding data. He wants to use either 4198, 5744, or Varget powder if possible. Of course he would start out on the conservative side and has been reloading for quite a few years. Anyone out there have any suggestions? Muchly appreciated!:-?

Chaparral Arms recommends 23 grains of IMR4198 and a 240 grain bullet.

My first '76 was a .40-60, but the second and third were .45-75's. :drinks:

Very much appreciate the input. I'll pass it on. I'll bet that .45-75 round got your attention- huh! I shoot a Pedersoli Sharps in 45-70 but have only used Swiss powder (62 grains with a 520 grain RN) so far. I think I prefer the shove from blackpowder to the sharp jerk of smokeless. Thanks again! Stay safe out there.
