I've finally done it! A 50 yard 5 shot group that I can post for people to see!

This is out of the Turk Mauser I rebarreled and then chambered with a 308 Winchester short-chambered Wilson 26" stainless factory 2nd barrel. I floated the barrel out of the original military stock and then added an Lyman Rear Sight and a Lyman 17 front sight.

I had so-so groups out of it until I recrowned the barrel with a Brownells Crowning tool in January. Due to work I haven't had time to fire it until today...

308 Winchester
Lyman 311291 (170gr Round Nose) with a Hornady Gascheck.
Lubed with Lee Alox
Unique 14.0 grains
Winchester Large Rifle Primer
Indian OFV 7.62x51 brass

Pictures worth a 1000 words! (picture now gone but it was a 1.5MOA group.)

Next week I pack out my stuff for the move to Atlanta!

Not shabby CPT, or is it Major yet? You've earned your due. That same load will shoot more freely in the south, doncha know. The cradle of our freedom has become tainted. Enjoy your move, your new assignment, and most of all your new freedoms (that should exist where your are now).

btw, retired CSM who grew up in NY and did not go back.

Just waiting for the official promotion message to be released. Should be a Major by fall if the message is printed right ;)

Definitely looking forward to coming back south of the Mason-Dixon. NY has not been a friendly 4 years for gun owning. Upstate people are among the best. It's the freaks in NY City and the lower counties that ruin it for everyone else in the state.

And I look forward to shooting on a Atlanta area rifle range soon.

Contact me on PM. I live west of Hotlanta in Douglasville.
There is a range west of me (15 min) and it's a LOT less crowded this side of town.
A Very Good Sherriff's dept. and close enough to everything that living this side is nice.

Field Grade Huh?

Been out for a long time now, but I'll give ya a salute, Thanks for keeping us safe, from the scumbags.

The area around Watertown is beautiful. I crossed there twice off 81 when I was headed to Quebec. Bought some nice things from a Amish woman and her daughter on the roadside. The view of the St Lawrence is very nice also. Good luck in Alanta! You do know that you have to go through Alanta to get to Hell. Later David

Bruce :

That's some fine shooting. Can't beat the 308 Win. with cast bullets. A fine combination.

I'm hoping I can get my 257 Roberts to shoot like this when I have time in Atlanta. I want a accurate rabbit/squirrel rifle with a 100gr cast boolit.

Great shooting Bruce and welcome to Georgia.... you have my sympathy for moving to Atlanta.

Seriously, you'll enjoy the weather here in Gerorgia, both seasons!

Good work ! I suggest you check into Riverbend Gun Club, a bit north west of Gainesville. It is a premier facility, has a great group of shooters, and a wide variety of ranges and activities. They had a 600 yard range for service rifle when I was a member. Good Luck. BvT

congrads on the promo:drinks: to major.if you get the chance to go down to savannah do it.I was stationed at hunter AAF for 3 years.some real fine folks down there.

last time I was leaving germany I was getting "short" and got a welcome packet from the CSM at ft drum.in it he told not to bring any guns with me into NY as they would be locked up at the airport.
I went down to the re-up nco signed up for my last 6 years and got locked into ft lewis and 1/9 cav.
