How does the 200gr SWC and the 230gr TC tumble lube bullets feed through a 1911? Has anyone here tried them?

I haven't used the tumble lube design, but the standard lube grooved boolits feed fine.

I found that my chamber got gunked up after a while, so I had to clean the lube off of the portion of the bullet that was outside the case. Figured if I had to do all that work I might as well size and lube the other style. Still use them in my .45 acp revolvers and long colts.

the 230gr TC works great. I have the one with the standard lube groove.

I use both but mostly the 200 swc with alox and they are more accurate then the store bought. My daughter and I will go out and do 250 to 300 round shoots with my Colts with never much of a problem. Last time she had a ruptured case and ruined the mag, pryed it out checked the gun over and resumed shooting. I love those 1991"s . Boon :castmine:

I just got back from the range. I shot 200 rounds of the 230gr Lee truncated cone tumble lube bullets. 100 over 4.0gr of Titegroup and 100 over 7.0gr HS6. I lubed them with Lee liquid alox and after they "dried" overnight I tumbled them again in a little baby powder. I got a little leading with the Titegroup and almost none with the HS6 both were accurate but I liked the HS6 load a little better. I am new to this casting thing and think I would not get any leading at all if I would have water quenched my bullets. (I've just started doing this with my .44's but that's another story.) In other words they work great out of my Kimber Custom II. Later.

I used to use the 200 grain TL in my 45 when we shot bowling pins. I bought the 6 banger so I could pour em as fast as we were shooting em. Worked great. No leading or other problems. Then I got a wilson match grade barrel and they would not chamber unless I sized em.

I've got the 200 SWC TL in a double cavity and it works well in my Combat Commander. I usually wipe the nose with an alcohol soaked rag ( the rubbing not the drinking kind). I've been "water dropping" straight wheel weights and am getting no leading at 950 fps. Using aircooled WW's with the 452374 at about 850 fps I was getting some leading.

I quit using the 200g SWC. I kept getting jams because they were hanging up on the feed ramp. I thought about water dropping them thinking the lead would be harder so it would slide up the ramp better but never tried it. I had the same problem with my 40 and water dropping the bullets made the problem go away!

I would suggest the Lee 200 SWC (not tumble lube) that looks like the Hensley and Gibbs #68. It has a single large grease groove. This bullet was designed to have the same feed characteristics as ball ammo (despite looking much different) and feeds flawlessly through every 1911 I've tried it in.

Load to an OAL of 1.255", and you will have trouble free functioning. Spring for this mold for another eighteen bucks-you won't be sorry. Very accurate as well. I did a test of many styles of cast bullets intended for the .45 ACP and this bullet finished near the very top. The only bullet type that beat it was a short nosed target SWC that did not feed nearly as reliably. I think you will find this bullet to be a better functioning load than the 200 tumble lube bullet.

The 230 TL worked great out of my 1911. Shot them over 5gr Unique. Used WW water dropped.

I use the 200gr TL swc in my Mk IV, M 70 and have no problems, but the best bullet I have found is the Lee 220gr RN intended for the Ruger Old Army BP pistol, great feeder and very accurate.

I've found the 230 TC with the std. GG to require seating right up very near the beginning of the ojive to feed in some guns. OAL is often critical with the ACP, so if you're getting some problems with functioning, it's most likely an OAL issue.

The 190 gr. SWC was a staple for me for many years, and I shot many, many of them. It's short enough that functioning was never a problem.

Just ordered the 200 SWC in a 6-cav, the .38/158 RNF in a 6-cav., and a few more moulds, and it's good to hear it's an accurate and reliable one. With that longer nose, are you seating them so that the case mouth is right up near the SWC shoulder to get good feeding? My Kimber Lwt. Compact is less critical about OAL than a buddy's std. 5" Springfield, but his is amazingly accurate.

the TC works great in mine, the first mold I got the bullets had to be sized, the were unnacceptedly large and un-round. I sent it back and it came back working great.

The 200gr TLSWC works great in both my 1911s.( Series 70 GoldCup & a Series 80 GC.)

I have the six cavity Lee mould.
