I was given a bucket of "lead" duck decoy weights:

I'm pretty sure they are zinc or something similar, as they feel too light for lead and they have a different sound than lead when dropped on the cement.

Anybody know anything about these?

Thanks

Ron

Use your diagonal cutters to try to mark them. If you can put a dent in them, they are lead. If not, zinc.

Most likely the same as diving weights, anything and everything that resembles lead and will melt.

I sold about 25 lbs of WW lead to a guy who said he was making duck decoys. Brought a tear to my eye to think of that fine bullet lead being used like that.

A guy at my rifle range recently gave me a coffee can full of those. I melted a few and cast some boolits. They hardness test 6 BHN, might as well call them pure lead.

That said, the ones you have could be made of about any meltable alloy.

Try a low temp. melt, 600-650 degrees. Lead will melt, zinc won`t. Robert

Thanks for the info.

I'll round up my dikes for a quick check and then maybe melt up some at a low temp.
