Anybody try Lee Liquid Alox on patches? Did it work? I applied some to 10 patched bullets this evening, hoping to try shooting them this weekend.

I have lots of LLA on hand, however, I run my patches mostly dry.
I am looking forward to your results.

LLA will work just fine. I now use BAC, less messy. Most anything will work. I even tried lard once just to see and it worked fine. Anything to reduce friction and ware on the bore.

I'm new into PP, but I've started to use a little LLA on my patched bullets. Accuracy is the same, and I'm thinking they might be a little easier on the bore with a little lube.[smilie=w:

Sure is, and it helps weather proof the patches.

I'm new to PP too. I shall be trying some of my old hot dipped 'waxy-lube'. It is quite hard and brittle - the idea is that it won't 'glue' the patch to the bullet. It soaks up between the boolit and neck and seals and binds the bullet in place. I used to load my hornet with J-word bullets like that, seated in a paper cup. It was good for magazine use. (No neck sizing).

This is before the petals are cut off and the neck dipped.

Gotta question for the pdawg shooter - what's BAC?

Hopefully I'll get to shoot some this weekend and see how the LLA coated patches work.

I put a very lite wash on some I used to polish my krag, worked great. Still need to do my russian.
Thinned the LLA with mineral spirts, rolled them in ziploc bag & dried overnite.

LLA is all I've ever used for this. It works perfectly. I thin the LLA 50/50 with turpentine, then brush it on the finished, dry patches. It dries in about an hour. The LLA gives a bit of waterproofing to the patches, as well, for use in the field.

I rub some johnsons paste wax on the patch, then wrap the boolit, size and load into case.

So far I have been lubeing my patched boolets with dry teflon spray. Then regular alox 50 50 bullet lube from my sizer. This is the what the NRA worked out many years ago.It works for me. I will give the JPW and other types a try though. My paper I'm using now is 25% cotton rag tracing vellum . This stuff dosn't slice into ribbons like the typing bond paper I used to use. I just find what I call fiber tuffs in front of my fireing position.
