it goes in about 1/16", then gets tight and won't go further. the old one slid out of there real easy, what's the deal? Do I need to sand this thing down to make it fit? Am I doing something wrong? I tried heated the 450 up in the oven a little, same as when I cleaned it up.

Make sure the set screw is backed out, better yet take it out all to gather, you don't need it. A little grease will hold the punch in. Also use a mike or verniers to measure BOTH shank diameters. No point in sanding it down if it is correct Dia.

Larry has some good points, measure first. I have gotten 1 that was cut too big to fit in my luber though, so it does happen.

I had a new one a few years ago coated with a waxy type substance and it wouldn't slide in. Cleaned it off with lighter fluid and it slid right in.

That happened to me on a new top punch before also. Chuck it in a drill and use sandpaper or a file to remove a little metal on the part that goes in the ram, stop when it fits.

Yep, drill press and sand paper worked for me, too.

Thanks guys. Yes I suppose someone had to say it, but the problem isn't the set screw. I'll try the drill and sandpaper.
