Sean; enjoy the hunt, I have looked real hard at the 475GNR should make one fine cast boolit launcher-someday.

Sounds very fun, take lots of pictures of the environment if you can. I love seeing the landscape of other places... Preferably with game hanging from trees :)

Thought you'd get a chuckle out of that! I wouldn't wander out of the bush just to find a computer either. Good luck and have a safe/fun hunt!

1 red Hartebeest-475 Maximum-405gr MM boolit.
1 bushbuck-475 Maximum-405gr MM boolit.
I will give a full story later. Also I have to shrink the pictures before I can post them. This is the Blue Wildebeest ,Red Hartebeest and Bushbuck.
The hartebeest picture could be better, too much white.

Hi
Finally got a little time,
The Blue Wildebeest I shot with the TC 410GNR-265gr WFNGC (meplate is actually 75%) was shot at 40 yds and 70 yds.The shot at 40 yds was at the south end of the Wildebeest and was high, creating a very ugly wound about (5" wide)at the top of its back. The second shot was at it slowly running away broadside at 70 yards the shot went in the short ribs and angled thru the right shoulder(breaking the shoulder) and then exiting. The PH and trackers and myself tracked the Blue Wildebeest about 1 mile and I put another round in the neck at 25+/- yds and that finished it.I will say I am not much for Texas heart shots but this is the shot that was presented and the PH said it was a good shot I just shot a little high.
I checked the would channel and the penetration was great,(thru short ribs -broke shoulder and out IS good, the bullet went thru the edge of 1 lung on its path to the shoulder. Wound in the lung was 1" not great but not terrible considering it had traveled a good 10+" before it hit the lung.
Got to get to work.

Here is the Red Hartebeest story: and my 475 Linebaugh Maximum using MM-405gr WFNGC (83% meplate) at 1500 fps.
We were glassing the surrounding brush and hillsides ,this was the regular routine ,looking for a good animal (not particularly a Red Hartebeest) and we see a Hartebeest about 60-70 yds into the brush. The PH gives me the OK to shoot at the animal and I shoot about 4" below the heart the shot passes thru both legs and breaks both legs and exits. We track the animal about 500 yds and put a finishing shot in.
I kinda hoped I would get to see what kind of wound channel the .475-405gr created but my shot needed to be a liitle higher.

Looks like pretty decent digs for living out in hunting country.

The hunting areas do remind me a little of the ranch I hunted in Monterey County, CA. Lots of feed and cover for the beasties, and a lot of fun for the nimrod!

I envy you your fun and your memories! I doubt I'll ever make it there, but I am still holding out some hope for Caribou in Alaska!:-D

Wow!
That is just awesome right there. South African hunting has always been a dream to me (along with alaska). Even if I didnt shoot anything, just the expirence alone of going out and seeing this type of country would be more then worth it to me.

Whenever I hear stories of people's hunts in Africa it always makes me weary about the thought of having a lion or some other vicious creature trying to make you his personal supper. Did you have any run-in's with any of those types of bruts over there?

No.I dont know for sure but I think we may have been to far south,we saw a bunch of jackals and 1 spotted hyena track. We saw a 5' brown cobra up close and personal and a 6' boom sling, basically a bright green very poisonous tree snake.

I'm kinda partial to the Sitatunga and Bushbuck . Looks like you took a pretty nice Bushbuck.

What were the other eight animals you took and with what ?

From what I saw all they ever do is see or can get closest .
The boomsling was killed, only because it was caught crawling in a window into one of the PH rooms.Yes the windows were left open overnight.

I know its not the right thing to say . But I just cannot help myself.
When I see a snake I just have to make sure it stays where I found it.
even if I got to do it with my boots. Yup darn hard to kick one to death.
Stand on it just behind the head and use your heel on the other foot on the head.
