Does anyone have a recent manufacture RCBS .44 250K. Are you satisfied with the design? Is this close to the original Keith design? Any and all comments welcome.

I have a fairly recent mold and it is pretty close to the original Keith design. It is a good one and has never acted up in any way. It shoots well in 2 S&W M29's using 9 grains of IMR 4756 ....a fairly light to medium load and 18 grains of IMR 4227 that is an old Keith load for the 44 special, that is somwhat more than so called medium ....but it has enough whomp for me at my age. It can be loaded higher with 22-23 grains of the 4227 if you like working with max power. Good shooting. LLS

The RCBS 250K boolit mold is a fine mold that has been designed to approximate the original. and it is close enough to Keith's original that you will see no difference in the way it shoots.

It is a good heavy boolit in 44 SPL / 44Mag, I have used 2400 for a long time, it is easy to use and is not a pressure sensitive powder like 296 or h-110, I like 4227 also , but usually stay with 2400 because I shoot it in several other guns. 17G-2400 is a good lite load, you can go lower. 19-21 Gr-2400 makes a good hunting load.

That mold is probably the most forgiving one I have, produces good bullets at just about any heat range.

there are about 25,000 keith designs some are even close.
i have the g/c version of it with the short nose picked just for my leveraction rifle at as hiighofspeedasicanget velocities and it shoots great.
i think right now rcbs is the best bet going for a good mold.

I have 2 Lyman molds that are supposed to be close copies of the Keith. One is a square bottom lube groove just like Keith preferred, the other is a round bottom lube groove. The round lube groove shoots better in two guns, the other guns have no preference. I also use a lot of the gascheck design, I believe we called it a Keith -Thompson style. Keith didn't care for gaschecks.:coffee:

Mine isn't a recent copy, but I think the 44-250K is the closest thing to what a "boolit" should look like that is commercially produced today. Tony

My 44-250K is also one of the best casting molds I have, and that bullet is the one I most often use in my .44 revolvers. It's too long for use in my Rossi 92 with magnum brass though.

Don't know about RCBS , it should be more like the Saeco bullet in the photo. More for the rifling to grab as the bullet leaves the muzzle. Better alignment in the bore, better accuracy. http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n420/joe1944usa/th_44mag.jpg (http://s338.photobucket.com/albums/n420/joe1944usa/?action=view&current=44mag.jpg)

I like it, I don't have any idea how old mine is.

I had an RCBS 44-250 mold years ago and I did not care for it one bit. The front driving band was very thin and parts of it would often be left in the mold. It has to be the mold that I hated the most dureing all my casting years. Maybe with the proper front driving band it would be OK. That mold turned me off to RCBS until I recently got a 35-200 for my .35 Remington.I know the 44-250 mold did not produce bullets as shown in RCBS literature. Maybe I should have sent it back and asked for the real deal.
