i ran into an old friend at the store the other day and we started to talk reloading
cant find this or that
i told him i really got into casting to save money on buying bullets
he then says, hey.....i have some lead you can have for free!
ok
he has my attention!
it is from our local indoor rimfire range
he gave me 240lbs of the stuff!
it looks really clean, and i dont even see any copper at all in it
just some trace pieces of carpet fiber and some paper
so.....my question is this
is it pure?
i dont know what 22 bullets are made from
do they add any other alloy to the mix or is it pure lead
thanks again guys:castmine:

.22 bullet lead has some antimony in it (probably no more than 2%). However, it is very useful. Many here suggest to mix it 50/50 with Wheel Weights for a good standard velocity revolver mix.

Indoor range lead is good stuff. It has a little tin, antimony, and maybe arsenic in it, but not much. Give it the thumbnail test to see whether it's hard lead or soft; you can use it either way but it's a good thing to know.

I think I'd treat that as pure until I found out different.

Maybe the sticky's will yield a source of info for this metal.

I've always heard 22 rimfire was pure lead. Regardless, awesome score!

the info i have on it is it's swaged from pure with about 1.5% antimony in it.

I regularly mix 22 scrap with WW. It is great for those 1000 fps loads in whatever.
I have shot 10`s of 1000`s out my 44 Marlin for paper punching.
If you think about it most standard 22 loads are about 1100 fps out of a rifle!
