Reguarding force required; Could you use one the the Lee Sizing dies with the Lee hand held press to size a, ? say , .312 un-lubed bullet down to .310 ??

Yes it can be done without too much difficulty, but that is related to the hardness of the bullet alloy. The higher the BHN number the tougher it is to size bullets in any machine. A reduction of .002 is not considered a lot, but its always a bit easier when the bullets are lubed first. LLS

It'll do it easily but I would smear just a bit of case lube or wax on the bullet to keep from smearing lead.

When I want my sizings to be unlubed, I use dish soap.
When all sized, rinse in real hot water untill the bubbles are gone.
That small a sizing should go easily with Lee Sizing Dies.

Thanks, I was pondering on the lube thing, easiest would be dry moly, motor mica, or Imperial case sizing lube, just need a little bigger tower for my lap while enjoying TV & the AC , the bullet in question is the Saeco 073, and I need to size the swaged out area on top of the grease groove for a better fit in the throat and a proper seating depth.
Thanks again

LEE's own case sizing lube works well also.

I would pan lube them first to give the lands support while sizing that much, however give it a try and see how it looks.

...Lee doesn't make a .310 resizing die.:groner:
You could take a .309 and lap it out, though.

You can go straight to Lee & get them to make you a custom sized one. I had them do that for me about a year ago. They quoted me 3-weeks lead time & actually delivered in about 10-days. The price is only a little bit more than you would pay for a standard size.

+1 for Buckshot. He does excellent work, and are $23 to the door. He usually only has a couple of weeks turn around as well.

I have enlarged push thru and H&I sizing dies with a 1/4" steel rod split about an inch and a half lengthwise on the end. Then I fold over a piece of emery paper, chuck it in a drill and work it back anf forth like a hone. Easy to take a couple thousandths off this way and the finish remains smooth if you use 600 or finer paper.

I hava .329 Lee puch through and I run bulk Rem 158 gr SP 357 bullet through it with Imperial Sizeing wax in one pass. I'm using an old cast irom CH press to do it. Takeing .002" should be no problem with the Lee hand press.

The Lee Hand Press can F/L size some very large rifle cases with no problem.

I can't see it having any problems reducing a bullet .002 in dia.

A small amount of black moly grease on about every 3rd or 4th bullet will keep everything running smoothly.

+1 on Buckshot making a custom sizing die.
He has made 2 for me to use PPing boolits for a 71/84 Mauser that are pure perfection.
You can't go wrong with his work.

+1 on Buckshot's work as well! He's made two for me (.259 and .266) that are the "Bee's Knees" (to go along with Beekeeper's recommendation).

James Gibson -- What are your resizing for from .357 to .329?!?!
