Enco runs some pretty good sales on these from time to time.

One thing you need to watch with the cheap pin gauges is to make sure they do not have a razor sharp edge on the end. Some of the pins in my cheap sets are like that. I do think they are an excellent value.

It is humerous to look at the pins, they differ in surface finish on the od and ends, and the type and size of radius on the end, it is almost as if each .001 of gauge was made in a different factory in china.

"Where do you work ?"
"I work in the .251 gage pin factory in bejing"

+1 on the 'cheap' gages. Unless you plan to do a lot of measuring there's no need to spend more. If you only want/need a few sizes try gageshop.com More expensive but you can save a bundle by ordering exactly what you want instead of buying a complete set and only using 4 or 5 pins. They have good stuff and the service is fast.

The nice thing about cheap pins is you can use them for things you would not use good gage pins for. Such as cutting them up to make dowel pins you need in a hurry in an oddball size.
