Hello,

I am just getting into casting and looking for a book on mixtures for the lead, Linotype for loading 44 mag and 45LC, 454, 460 S&W hardcast bullets and what what molds do you recommend for deer and hog hunting.

Thanks
northkid

Welcome northkid to cast boolit heaven! ..:drinks:

As you explore and learn here at CB, you will find that hard cast is not necessarily the way to go, and specially for hunting. There are litterly years and volumes here to address your questions, so I don't exactly know where to start in directing you, but do searches on any of those subjects, and hold on to your seat ...:drinks:

Thanks for the welcome Patmarlins! I have been lurking for some time and just overwhelming with the info. I like the K.I.S.S way I have a pot, ladle, ingots, lead, Linotype and Lyman size just need some mold ideas for hunting and metal mixture for casting and off to the races I go to :Fire:

Welcome Northkid - be aware, this boolit casting business is consuming. I'm no expert, and you will get many experienced opinions. But to KISS, just cast up WW and be happy. Don't think you will need to add any other metal to get what you need for the calibers mentioned. Enjoy Mike

I just wrote a long reply and lost it due to problems with the server.
My most important point was for you to read all of 44mans posts. He is one of the most accomplished large powerful handgun shooters here.
Also one of the most important things you can do is to know the GROOVE dimension of your gun. Make the boolit to fit your gun. Extremly hard boolits are most times counterproductive.
Welcome and enjoy your time here.
Life is good.

A Lyman cast bullet book will be a great help to you, also consider a Lee reloading book.

Follow that guy. 44 is the man ...!Thank you for the info. Very informative. I know the jacketed bullets need to run faster FPS to expand and do there job. With the the 454 and 460 cast I would belive the recoil is not as harsh as the jacketed bullets.

All of the folks here have been great with the help.

I was looking at buying cast bullets but they want $100.00+ per 500pc.

recoil is what you make it when you reload.
ww metal will do 90% of everything you need done with cast.
