gentlemen and ladies,
there is a friendly cast boolit coming up the end of the month. i'm working on some loads for this meeting, but am open to suggestions.
i have a varirty of molds from 135 to 200 plus. a bunch of powders, and here is the fun part..i have rifles with twists from 1/15 to 1/10. the better rifles are actually the 15,14 twists and one at 11.25/1.

so lets hear some suggestions of what has worked for you ?
( no i'm not a novice, my rifle and loads took a first and second place one year, but i am open minded...not stuck in my rut......)

speak up

Too bad your meeting is not in Aurora IL, I'd be able to go to that.

My 1/12 twist Palma rifle is deadly accurate with a 311291 cast out of linotype and sized to .309". 25.0 gr. of 4320 with 0.5 gr. of dacron was one of my favorite loads.

It's tough to beat the 170gr gc RFN using about 28-29 grs IMR3031 in a 30-30 seated out as far as it will work in the action,(or use as a single shot) It's not going to win any high velocity games ,but its accurate.

I like the Lyman 180gr spitzer, (forget the mold number for now) with 23gr of IMR 4227, and a standard primer in a 30/06 Remington case. Shoots very well in my 98 Mauser sporter!:Fire:

I am a 30 caliber nut, and have 3 (30-30s), 5 (30-06s), 5 (30-40s) and 5 (.308 Win.). Yesterday I sent a fine double heat treated 03 action to Shaw to be fitted with a 1-12 30-06 barrel. I will build this up as a hunting rifle for my son.

I have had good luck with the RCBS 165 sil, 311291, 311467, 311466, 311284, SAECO RG7 and 311407. I have yet to find a powder than will beat 2400 or 4759.

Best rifle was an 03 Springfield in 30-06 with a 1-14 twist Phiefer barrel.

I don't have any secret formulas or mystic mojo..but the tried and true 30 caliber loads still work for me. .

Mike,

I'm probably not in the same league with some of the guys around here, but a favorite load of mine has been with a 150 SP RCBS mould which is apparently out of date now. This bullet jammed in the rifling pretty good with 18 grains of IMR 4227 has done well for me. I shot this in a 308 Winchester chambered 98 Mauser at a 200 yard competition for military rifles and did as well as those shooting J ammo. This even though I was seeing 2 bulls some of the time. (I hate having bad eyesight). It was such a hoot for me to shoot then hear the boolits hit the target/berm about a second later.
