:Fire::drinks:I just talked to a Lyman tech and he's sending my 314299 back to me today. I sent it back because I wanted them to open up the nose or exchange it for one with a larger nose. When I bought the mold, the nose measured .3022. Now after running the cutter back into the the nose, he says the noses will be .3028-.303.
They received it about 2 weeks ago and I feel they've done a good job for me. I'm happy with the turn-around time also. Above all, I'm confident my groups will tighten up. I never had any problems with leading so the bands are fine at .3134 but the nose was at the low end of spec. I miss my mold and I'm getting it back soon.....YES!:drinks::drinks:

I hope that they've done a good job for you.

I'm a big fan of the 314299, my mould drops 0.3037" on the nose and 0.3145" on the driving bands.

I've had this mould many years now and despite having fine .303" moulds from CBE and bespoke moulds from LBT that all shoot exceptionally well in my various .303"s the old 314299 gives nothing up to them.

Thanks, dromia. I would have preferred a mold of your size but lyman says the spec for the nose is .3020 - .3030. and he could not go larger than that. I guess their specifications have changed. In any case, if the boolits work satisfactorily, I'll be happy and I wont be afraid to purchase Lyman products in the future. If not, I will look elsewhere for other molds. I think it might be a good idea if Lyman would post the specs on the mold instead of just saying
".314 diameter".

Hello Mr Superior
Just curious, has the work Lyman did on your mold 314299 worked out. I'm thinking of buying that mold. I'd like one that casts a nose dia. .302.
Thanks

The 311299 I'm shooting sized at .312" in a hard alloy has a nose diameter of .304".

I have a used 314299 double cav mold I just got but haven't started using it yet.

When I was loading 7.5x55 Swiss I first tried this 311299 for the 96/11 Schmidt-Rubin and it chambered and functioned just fine. But it wouldn't chamber in the K31. I had to go to a 180 grain bullet with a .300" nose diameter for the K31. You can stuff just about anything in the 96/11 but the K31 is very limited on throat fit.

The 311299 I'm loading in .30-06 for a M1903 and M1917 and a 1909 Argentine, 1891 Argentine and a Finn 1891 Mosin with a Belgian barrel. The 1891 Argentine and the 1891 Mosin will do 5 shot one hole groups at 50 yards with 12 grains of Unique with this bullet. Like it has laser guidance:).

Sure wish mine was. Sold it and replaced with a 314299. The nose miked at .298-.2985.
The widest it measured on the bands was .310-.3105. The boolit would turn in the muzzle of most .30 cal rifles.
