Who has ever shot w/o lube? He's not available, he is still trying to get the Lead out of the barrel. :groner:

Shot without, brass, primers, powder, and lead, but never lube.:kidding:

In reality though, I believe when anyone loads those 22bhn factory casted to hard bevel base crayon "lubed" bullets (not deserving of being called boolit) they are shooting without lube, and I've shot them, and they are simply aweful. I'd rather shoot a jacketed bullet.

No lube? But what about the smoke and smell we all love so much? That just ain't right!

Closest I ever came, was with a straight moly coating. Sucked.

Been there done that...Don't ever want to go there again!

Bought first Lee mold in 1976, it was a 150gr/30 caliber single cavity. The instructions tha came with the mold were very basic and I was in a rush to try out my new boolits. Anyway, I wore out 3 bronze brushes scrubbing out my Mdl 64 Win.

I have in my BP rifle. No problem! Of coarse it did have a patch in it. Actually Lee said it was possible in his book but with very slow pistol loads. I've never tried it myself.

I've read this as well.

How come air rifle pellets can be pushed dry at 1000fps + ?

I guess because there is no potential for erosion by hot gasses caused by the ignition and burning of a propellant. Just a WAG on my part.

Norm Johnson shoots revolvers without lube as a matter of course. No lead.
I have shot many rifle shots without lube on cast bullets, with Cream Of Wheat between the powder and bullet. No leading, but no accuracy gain over lubed bullets.

ive put quite a few lubeless bullets through the 1911s through the years. never had a bad leading problem but usually didnt get great accuracy.

Guess again.

Done it, just to see what would happen. I got mediocre to lousy accuracy after about the first five to ten shots, then no accuracy at all. I mean zero.

Of course, all that lead in the barrel might have had something to do with it. . .

I kinda shudder at the thought of shooting a .308 or 30-06 or even a 30-30 standard round without any lube.

Yes And, that kind of leading is hard to get out! It's still 22bhn in your barrel:neutral:

I did it in my Ruger RH .44 magnum. I was experimenting with a spray moly lube on the Lee 310 gas checked RNFP cast from 3 to 1 pure lead and monotype. Each cylinder full increased the group size and leading. After about 5 cylinders full and groups up to 5" at 25 yards, I decided my test was a failure. I then fired a cylinder full of the same boolit with 50/50 Beeswax/Alox lube and gas check in place . All leading was removed, and the second cylinder full went into 1 1/2".

I didn't follow up, but it would have been interesting to try the same moly spray WITH gas checks. In all my casting, I've never had a gas checked boolit produce any visible leading.

I loaded up a batch of 38 S&W shells with BP and no lube. Figured we only shoot 2 at most matches anyway. Then we had a shoot where I was about the only one who brought their pocket pistol, so I was lending it out. After about the 10th round it stuck a bullet in the barrel. Can't get much more leading then that. Was a real bear to get out, what with all the leading in the barrel.

I have done it after reading of Norm Johnson and others. I shot as many as 20 mild cast bullet loads out of a rifle without leading but accuracy seemed subpar so I did not pursue it. I figure they were about 1100 fps loads.
