Gentlemen, I am new to the board but like the info and atmosphere available here.

I am going to get back into bullet casting after several years absence. I have all the equipment except lead and lube.

I want to cast some Keith Style Plane Based semi wad cutters for my .357-.41-.44 magnums.
Powder will be 2400
Speed will be 1150 to 1250 FPS

I will be getting my alloy from Rotometals inc.

http://www.rotometals.com/Bullet-Casting-Alloys-s/5.htm

What alloy from this company would suit my needs best?
What properties of the recommended alloy are you looking at to make the recommendation?
What lube would you suggest.

The Revolvers are S&W's and two Rugers (Redhawk and super Blackhawk)

The next alloy question is for a 45 Long Colt Keith Style Semi Wad cutter.
Powder will be Unique
Speed will be around 900 FPS

Revolvers are S&W and Ruger Blackhawk
Same questions.

Thanks for any advice you can give.

The Lyman #2 alloy would be my choice, given the prices.

+1 to the above post.

It could be adjusted with pure lead to fit your needs, and should water harden beautifully.
Get a few pounds of pure for experimentation. If you are loading wadcutters, plinkers, or lower velocity practice loads, a softer a softer mix to stretch your supply.

Thanks fellows, your thinking mirrors mine.

I would normally find some linotype and wheel weights to make my own alloy, but I work overseas now and only get about 6 weeks back in the US. So buying the alloy will cut time down and allow my son to learn how to cast, size, load and shoot lead bullets.

Take care
