I've noticed prices going up.
38 spl was $35-$45 1000 shipped now going $55-$66 1000 shipped!!
Seems brass is up $20-$40 per 1000 depending on caliber.

It's called price on demand. The more we panic buy the higher the prices will go.

Since I shoot machine guns and cast bullets, I buy my brass in lots of 1000 or more. Over the years, I have stockpiled 3000 308, 5000 223, 5000 38, 3000 357, 3000 44, 3000 380, 4000 45, and 10000 9mm. Primers are bought in 10000 lots. Powder in 8 lb jugs. Lead is in 5 gal buckets - about 40 of them in the basement.
It is gratifying to know that if I ever need some money, these can be sold quickly and profitably!

Reloading components have been going up for the last couple of years. The short supply of available factory ammo for the shooting community has increased the number of new folks reloading their own. These are the same folks that 2 or three years ago couldn't be bothered with the extra work of rolling their own, but now have been forced to do so just to be able go shooting every once in awhile. More people reloading increases the demand on components that will continually drive the prices up.
I have been reloading ever since my dad taught me when I was eight years old. I am now 47.
This shortage would have put a serious crimp in my lifelong hobby, but I have always been able to keep enough on hand because I used to shoot alot more than I do now. I have cut back on my shooting activities, so I can stretch out the bulk of my supplies and ammunition until the shortages caused by all the panic buying ends.

Luckily I lready had a pretty good hoard before this craziness. Prices on ammo or components are insane and seems to be getting worse.

I'm just hoping that this insanity will end and the non-serious gun owners/shooters will yard sale their stuff at a bargin price. You know, Obama did promise HOPE.

Of course, if Obama doesn't get his butt handed to him soon these are going to look like the good ol' days.

I find this whole ordeal surreal (including our current president) as I highly doubt that the average gunowner had more than a full box of ammo for the gun or guns that they owned prior to this. I was listening to NPR the other day on the way home covering the ammo/gun shortage and the owner of a large gun shop said a 60+ year old lady called him by phone to order an ak47 and a full case of ammo.

+1 on all the above, if we make it another 2-3 years, this will look like the good old days,
This is going down hill daily, like an avalanche, if you don't have what you need for the next few years, you probably won't be able to afford it, soon. This is just one of several causes for the shortages.

I would say that compared to the newbie reloaders, we are few in numbers. They are starting from scratch, we are just augmenting our supplies.

We can't change the prices, or supplies.

We can contact our congress men and women and tell them to stop the madness, as long as this administration is shoving the country in this direction, we are in trouble.

I think most of us love our country as we do our casting, loading, shooting and hunting.
Forget the prices now.....when we have to start paying for all these give away programs and the interest on the money we don't have....this Will Look Like the Good Old days. IMHO

I bought primers at the gunshow in Kansas City for $30.00 per K yesterday (Sat. the 25th of April) The local store here they are $28.00 per K but he was out of large pistol when I checked last week. Where are these prices so high? might be worth a trip.

My shootin' buddy was at the KC gun show as well; he reports that Wolf large pistol primers were $35 / 1000. He passed but he said others were buying.

The gun show in Smyrna, Tennessee, (20 minutes south of Nashville) was like a ghost town this weekend. Many of the non-local dealers didn't even make expenses. They were all claiming that the panic buying was over. About 6 weeks ago people were packed in there shoulder to shoulder and the line was wrapped around the building with people waiting to get in. Could be that things are starting to turn around. I've been predicting that the economy would turn up in the 3rd quarter this year. Hope so.

HI DONALD! And Welcome!

My Name is Rodney and I too am a Hoarder.

Like you, I didn't just start hoarding a couple of months ago, I've been doing it for years. Normally, I would hang my head in shame (if I had a conscience) but I just can't stop. IIIIIII LIKE IT!!!!!

.223 Rem, .243 Win, .300 Weatherby MAGNUM- they're all good! Shoot (oops, Sorry), I've even gone international-6mm, 7mm, 8mm-it makes no difference to me- I LIKE 'EM ALL! I even hoard .22 rimfire cases (just in case I ever start swaging).

And from the looks of prices lately, our little "Club" is growing. 6 months ago, .223 Rem was going for $60.00 per 1,000 shipped. Now it's more like $100.00 to $120.00 + shipping. It's all going up although I do feel a little sorry for those just getting into "the Game". [smilie=b:

So hold your head up and walk Proud Man! You're not alone! [smilie=l: :drinks:
