Just scored a few hundred pounds of truck WW's. From 2 oz up to 16 oz. Are they the same alloy as std car WW's?? Why I ask....doing the side cutter squeeze test they seem harder.

Though being larger in diameter......I'm probably not conveying the same mechanical pressure on a 1" diam wt the way I do on a 1/4 thick std WW.

I don't know, but how did you get them? Is it a specialty shop that changes truck tires, a fleet garage, a recycler? It could help the rest of us get more in other parts of the country.

Big truck tire Center. He usually sells them to a guy who has his fleet of semi's serviced there. But luckily I was able to get a few buckets full.

There are several post on the forums that say that the large truck weights have a higher Antimony content.

If they do have a higher antimony content, that makes them better for mixing with pure, fewer WW needed to get the BHN needed. I hope this is correct, first I have to find some, Ak is a poor place for scroungers, the whole state scrounges just to get by...but I do a little horse trading now and again. Thanks for the info.

Any idea what " a little more" is? I have a bucket full myself, would like to know for using for hard boolits later.

Smelt down a ingot or 2 and send me 1 and I'll test its hardness with my Cabin Tree tester. That would give ya a realy good idea.

I have a bunch of old [20 yrs.] truck weights that I smelted. Hard and brittle. Have to alloy 66% lead to 33% WW to get BHN down.

That may explain a few things with little harder than normal WW alloy. I also get Truck WWs half a bucket now and then. Next batch i get i'm going to do some testing.
