I have access to 1000 lbs plus of this 93% lead 7% tin.

What needs to make this like ww or can it be used the way it is?

Need a lot input on this type of lead.

Thanks

WW is .5% tin. You need to add WW to this to lower the tin and bring up the antimony to at least Lymans #2 level or WW.

I think I would add about 2000lbs of W/W's to it and call it a day figuring that you would be close to 2% tin across the board. You would be a little shy on the antimony but unless you are heat treating the boolits I do not think you would notice the difference.

It's unusable and a huge disposal problem. I, however specialize in such hazardous tasks and will be willing to make your 1000# problem disappear for, say $100 bucks? :kidding:

That is PRIMO alloy! Lead plus Tin! You can alloy it with WW and more pure lead to bring down the Tin content, as 7% is a bit of a waste.... I don't use more than 2% Tin in my alloys, and that's PLENTY for good mold fillout for me.

dean.
rcbs and lee use 10% tin for their rifle loads.
5 percent as in 5 lbs tin to 95 lbs of lead is 20-1 which is about the same bhn as ww's but holds together better under hunting situations.
get you a bunch of strap type ww's to thin this out some, and have fun. 30-1 is good in hand guns too .remember win and rem used 40-1 and 50-1 in their 38 specials and 45 colts for a dang long time and may still do so.

Just add WW or Magnum shot for antimony , as stated 7% tin is a bit of a waste, so you can add the WW/Shot and not hurt anything. What are you casting for? Anything up to about 1700fps can be done easily 20-1 or 30-1 for that matter, you can water quench if you need harder boolits. Good Luck, be happy you have 1000# of lead/tin.

I'd try adding about 400lb of pure lead to get 20:1, and try that first - most of my rifles shoot that more accurately than WW alloys unless you're trying for high velocity. If that doesn't suit you, add about 11lb of linotype(still available from lead suppliers under another name) if you want to get close to Lyman #2. As far as that goes, it'll probably shoot as well as most things the way it is.

here is a link to different alloys. Yours looks like its a little harder than WW. http://www.pnjresources.com/Hardness%20of%20Lead%20Alloys.htm

I've melted many pounds of WW and never have had a batch as stated in the Alloy Chart with a Bhn of 9. The range varies from 13.5 to 15.4

Beanflip - you've got access to some great lead. For starters, the alloy of your lead calculated to a Bhn of 6.75. So to get to the WW Bhn of your desiring (13 or 15) you need a lot of alloy with Sb, like Linotype which has 12%. A 50:50 mix of your lead and Linotype should get you to a Bhn 14.4

And for this Service, a 100#'s of your lead would be a kindly gesture. I'll pay shipping![smilie=1: I'm a BPCR shooter and don't need alloys with Antimony!
