Sometimes deals can be had on the for sale forum. Usually they have 63/37 or 50/50 for sale.. prices tend to be below market..

I just go into the hardware store and get some 95/5 lead free solder. I use so little when I cast that the price is not an issue. I used way too much in the begining. I now just crank up the heat with whatever I cast with. I still have my original tin purchase.

Depends on what kind you want. Solder is easy enough to get. If you want pure, try the Rotometals link at the top of the page.

You'll pay thru the nose for bar solder at the local hardware store. Try Rotometals. http://www.rotometals.com/Tin-Ingot-s/27.htm Order $100 & it ships for free, 25# get's a 10% disc.

Bonjour,
pewter! Look at garage sales etc. Its cheap and about 95% tin.
I smelted some a few weeks ago and got some nice ingots.

Try your local hardware store for Oatey Lead Free Solder. It is 95% pure tin and costs $12 for a pound spool. It works dandy.
