Actually I've spent the last three days smelting; and casting. The wife left Friday for an extended vacation; going over-seas for 6 weeks. So, what is a boy to do? Drink beer, and cast of course!

Anyway, I'd purchased a 105,000 BTU Propane rig from Cabela's; along with a 5 piece cast iron set. My plans are to dedicate this cookery just to casting. I'm so glad I spent the $200 bucks on the rig; plus another $100 or so on two 20lb propane tanks, and their filling up. Friday, I spent smelting 700 lbs of various lead I'd accumulated. It was a breeze. Yesterday, and today were dedicated to casting boolets!! My results? I want to lie. :Fire: Truth is, all I ended up with is the following.

343 .358 diameter SWCs, 158 gns. Mould was a Lyman 2 cavity

223 .452 diameter SWCs 220 gns. Lyman mould; a 4 cavity

355 .458 diameter RN 300 gns. Saeco 4 cavity

523 .458 diameter RN 480 gns. Saeco 2 cavity

300 .512 diameter RN 425 gns. Saeco 1 cavity

1744 count? That couldn't be right! That's a lot of work; but fun! And, it passed the time for sure!

The wife had an old pot rack up in the attic.
What the girl doesn't know, can't hurt her; right? :castmine:

Here's some photos ---

Good Colorado morning everyone!

Yes, I like things neat; but neat my garage is not! A man just can't have enough room (s), shelves, nooks, tool boxes, or dogs! :Fire:

Thanks for noticing my thread; and commenting! Over the last few days, we folks in S. Colorado have recieved about a foot of snow. Casting sure helped, overcoming the boredom factor! Funny thing is, most all of the snow melted yesterday.[smilie=w:

Shiloh,
My Saecos produce fine bullets, regardless of caliber. I particularly like how they cast .458s in 300, 405, and 480 grains. I just wished 4 cavity, or larger moulds were more easily obtainable. :killingpc

Thanks everyone!

GRB, I suspect if you were able to cast 480 grainers in a four cavity mould, you'd need help lifting it to empty the mould of castings in pretty short order...Ray

Hey Ray,
Now, ain't it funny you show up! I've been putting the 480 gn Saeco I got from you to the good! In fact, I just got through lubing/sizing over 500 hundred of those bullets. I can't believe you did not like that mould! Great bullets. The #18 405 gn is great also; I already had two of those however. You can bet I could/can handle a 4 to 6 cavity in 480 gns! :)

Tomorrow, I'll be putting some 480 gns to powder!

I didn't say I didn't like those moulds I sold. I would have preferred to keep them. I bought the lot at a gun show because I wanted the four cavity H&G #22, the 454190 look alike. I didn't have enough cash with me to buy them so I borrowed some money from my son with the understanding that we would make a profit to boot [smilie=1:. The 480 grainer was the least favorite, just too much lead to poke a hole through a sheet of paper at 50 or 100 yards. The rest though were very nice...Ray

Goldenboy nice boolits, looks like you had a lot of fun.

Tell me are you running more than 1 mold at a time?

Hey GunSlinger!
Yep, you've got it Partner! I generally run 3 moulds, sometimes four at a time to keep things moving right along. Those single cavity moulds sure tend to run hot; and quick! :Fire:

I asked cause you said you don't quite understand your boolit count after 2 days of casting... and thought the reason was you were only running 1 mold at a time...

I guess you're just being thorough then :-D

I like all the neat little trays for holding the boolits. I've just been storing mine in coffee cans until they're sized. It makes me wonder if my boolits are getting damaged just by the weight of the ones sitting on top???

The wife's trip was, well a family thing. I guess I should be happy. I tell her so. Truth is, I kind of miss Miss Sqawker. :)

Jay!
Those trays! I'd tried to sell them not too long ago; no one jumped. I'm glad. They do come in handy.

GS!
I am thorough; or, at least I like to think so. Maybe too much so; about too many things. But, when done, with whatever it usually goes according to plan. But then, I lie. :)
