Picked up a #454190 DC a few weeks ago, hadn’t gotten around to trying it out until last night. It casts beautiful boolits, I was curious if it would drop large enough to size .455, which is the cylinder throat diameter of my .45 Colt. I was mildly surprised to find out it drops at .459-.460, weighing 262-grains, using the alloy-in-the-pot. Not a problem sizing to .455, the lube grooves are deep and wide enough.

I got to thinkin’ (I know, I shouldn’t do that) this morning that, at that diameter, it might make a good low-recoil, plinkin’ boolit for my .45-70 Handi-Rifle. What y’all think? Anybody tried that?

Why not, if it drops .459-.460 you could probably use them as cast, depending on the bore of your Handi , I have used the .459 boolit sized DOWN to .455 for my 45's , works both ways.IMHO

Whitespider, I've done just what you are thinking. My exception is that I am using the 454190 group buy mould from about a year ago, it cast at .463 from WW metal. I've only tried one load so far and that was with 2400 powder. The recoil was too heavy for just a plinker and results weren't very impressive :( 3"-4" at 50 yards. I'm probably going to try Red Dot next. I'm going to play with this until I find something that works. Try it I think you'll like it...Ray

I was shooting this in the H&R Buffalo Classic.
