I'm wanting to load some cast boolits for my Sig 380, and my Lyman book doesn't show a recipe for a 356 102 IR boolit. I have plenty of unique, Win231, and Bullseye powders. If you have a recipe or know where I can get the info it sure would be appreciated.

The closest I can find is in Lee's 2nd. The book lists a couple of "100 grain lead bullet" loads where the longer COAL is 0.975". No Alliant propellants are listed. I looked at three Lyman manuals, and they only have the 356242.

Now, if this were my gun and my fingers, what I would do is see if a dummy round chambered and extracted at 0.980". Then I would forget about the Bullseye and 231, because 380 ACP is very sensitive to seating depth, and I'd want the more forgiving and bulkier Unique. Then I would take the minimum load for Unique from the Lyman manual for the 120 grain '242, and load, expecting the slim possibility of a bullet-in-bore, or the almost definite possibility of a FTEj. Then I would carefully work up the load, one-tenth grain at a time until I hit the maximum load for the 120 grainer in the Lyman, (or until I blew up my face, whichever comes first.) If I got satisfactory reliability and accuracy out of the round, I would NOT try and push it any further, say to 3.5 grains or something.

But it's not my gun, and it wouldn't be my fingers. Neither have I tested this load. So I don't recommend it.

I like the disclaimer at the end. I may end up doing just what you said if I can't find any information in a manual some where. I hopeing someone will chime in here that has used this boolit. Thanks for the help.

I have recipes for the lighter 90/95 and the heavier 115/120 grain bullets but nothing for the 102 grain round nose. Could there be a webb site somewhere that may have this information?

Just use the starting load for the 115/120gr boolits and load the 102 adjust seating depth for good function.

Handloader magazine has a site that requires payment. It's called LOAD DATA. I use it a lot. It has loads from all over and with different powders.

Try Hodgdon's website. They have loads for the 100 gr FMJ. They recomend starting at 2.9 grs of 231. With the lead bullet I would try a little lower. 2.6ish and work up from there.

Just load the data for the closest next higher weight boolit and be done with it. For my 120g 9mm boolits I load 124g data. It works just fine. For my 162g SWC in 38spl, I load 160g data. Its not going to explode if you start at the starting loading. Remember, use your noggin' and be careful.

I loaded up 7 rounds ( that's what the mag holds) with 2.9 grains of Unique, and set the coal at .980 and went to the woods. All seven cycled great and the accuracy at 10 yards was pretty good, all in a 4" circle. I closely inspected each round and no pressure signs at all. I did notice the spent rounds didn't eject as far as a couple factory rounds did.
