Hi all what would you all consider to be the maximum bullet weigh for target shooting at target velocity in a 9mm pistol?
I am currently waiting on my Lee 9mm 124gr TLRN mould to arrive and wanting to load some boolits up was looking at what I have cast up I have a 150gr Lee RN 38 and a 158gr Lee SWC GC the bore in my 9mm is .357" and the 2 bullets I have are sized to .358"
I have tried some of the 150gr RN's and they fired and functioned fine I used 3gr of Hogdsons Universal (Our ADI Powder AP70N)
just for giggles I seated a 158gr SWC into a case and it looks really good but is a 158gr slug to much for a 9mm?
again I am only after a paper punching round just till my 9mm mould gets here I have a shoot this weekend and would like to load some boolits to give it a run
I have put about 200 115 FMJ's through it to run the barrel in a bit

Like everything else, it all depends. I've shot 158 grain RNs through 9mms, but would not expect all 158s to work in all cases with all pistols. Only way to find out is to try.

Here is my standard 9mm load, made with Lyman's 358477 SWC.

Looks funky, doesn't it!
I load it with 6 grains of Blue Dot to about 1000fps. OAL is 1.115". Though a grease groove is sticking out, it feeds flawlessly in my P89.

158g Lee-TL SWC. Takes jacks with a single pop. I push it to about 900-1000 fps. I don't currently have a chrony...

I shoot a 154 grain bullet H&G#52 cast from wheelweights.

Do you size these to the 9mm [.356] or the 357[.358]?
Reason I ask is that I have this 158g mold in a 6 cav and only have a 2 cav 9mm 124gr mold.
Does the SWC feed reliably? What is the COAL?? This possibility really interest me!!!!
I would feed these to a Ruger P89

I shot thousands of 150gr lee round nose .358 bullets thru my Browning Hi Power, sized to .357. But my Glock 17 with a Storm Lake barrel won't fully chamber any round that has any of the full caliber part of the bullet sticking
out of the case mouth. Sometimes those long 158 gr. SWC bullets don't like being
seated real deep in a 9mm case.
