Buddy of mine said that he was SURE that the primer shortage was some sort of conspiracy, it couldn't all be hoarding.

Let's do a little math. I don't know how many handloaders or regular shooters there are in the US. But let's say 300,000 of us. That's a conservative estimate supposing that 1 in 1000 americans handloads ammo.

Let's say that each and every one of them were to want 30,000 primers. I know that isn't true but let's just suppose. That's 9 BILLION primers!

I don't know how much each primer manufacturer makes per day but let's be generous and say 1 million each per day. Assuming CCI Winchester Federal and Remington- Wolf is just gravy.

At that rate it would take 2250 days to meet existing orders.

Now this is just all hypothetical but if even 1/10th of what I'm supposing, it would still take them a better part of a year to do it.

I don't see a conspiracy, I see a healthy consumer demand and primer companies failing to meet it.

Are you trying to baffle us with logic???

Your not even counting regular shooters that just want to buy more ammo.

"Please " do not attempt to apply "logic" or "common Sense" to our little crises, it is good training for those that are never prepared for most problems that arrise in our lives, maybe some will wake up and smell the flowers.:violin:

I here the winds blowing of a primer stimulus package. Only 9 billion, heck were America, Obama's America ought to be able to produce at least 700 billion primers for us. Let's have a 700 billion primer march!

I recently saw a show on Wednesday evening on Oudoor Channel where they visited CCI manufacturing. CCI makes 4 Million rounds of .22 rimfire ammo per day. I don't know how many primers they make per day, but considering CCI centerfire ammo, any military contracts they have and the handloader market, I'd guess the number is comparable. And that's just CCI. Then there's Winchester, Federal, Remington and Wolf. I think the production is a bit higher than you've calculated. Anyone know who makes the primers for Hornady's centerfire ammo?

Stew

Let's see,
4 million rounds per day
300 million Americans
That means that each American can have 1 round every 75 days. That's not nearly enough ammo.

Hmmmmm.....

Well, there's Federal, Winchester, Remington, Eley and probably at least half a dozen other manufacturers working at it, too. And since not all of the 300 million Americans shoot .22 rf daily, I think we're probably OK.

Magtech won a huge military contract to prime cases for military ammo. Magtech are excellent primers.

It was bad during Billy Clinton's admin...but not nowhere near this bad. Somalia didn't suck up the ammo like Iraq did and Afghanistan is. Plus, it's restock the ammo reserves time for Uncle Sam.

This to will pass...especially after Obama yo Momma has got your guns.

some of you could ask the companies in a "could you give us an estimate of how many to cure the conspiracy theorys".they might actualy tell you.:coffee:[smilie=1:
