I saw this question earlier. I did some testing on my own and found at lower velocities they did better backwards, but over 800? fps it doesn't matter.

First pic, 2 groups 25 yards 5 shots each.

One on the right, 4.0 bullseye loaded backward
On the left 5.0 W231 loaded forward. The holes look good either way at higher velocities.

Top 3 targets loaded backwards crimped in the case.
Bottom 3 forward crimped in the groove.
50 feet 3.0 bullseye.
Boolit is a Saco #50 lubed in the bottom 2 grooves with Carnuba red/NRA mixture 50%ww, 50% pure lead

I think that someone might have questioned loading a hollow base wadcutter backwards. It is a very formidable bullet when loaded at low velocity. It is also very accurate to 25 or 30 yards.

These are not hollow base. They look like a lyman 358495.

I loaded some backwards, Lyman 35891, 2.8 gr. Bullseye, Worked fine. Haven't done any testing. It worked, tried it for curiosity, but not something I'll do a lot of.

Actually its a old school defensive loading. One that many people have used for some time. When I carry the snub instead of the M65 out into the mountains I take along two of those in the cylinder to take out moderate size vermin such as wild dogs and the occassional sow.

I suppose the nose might make a more consistent and square base than the base does ?? More or less the bullet becomes a point pour bullet.

I tried it. Loaded a couple of boxes 38spl that shot well from a 8" barrel but keyholed out of 2 different guns that were shorter than 4". Do they need longer barrels to stabilize? Liked the idea for a cheap hollowpoint just didn't work well in practice.

I've used them in my snub many times with no problems. Barrel on the snub is 2", and its a Model 12 Smith. So, its nothing new, and nothing long. You may have problems somewhere else. Either with your loading technique or your pistols. Probably the first, though.
