I want to have the barrel of my Browning/Win 95 30-06 cut to 20 inches and also have a recoil pad installed. I would like to have the original front sight soldered back on. Anyone know a good gunsmith in NW PA that can do this. Lots of gunsmiths in my area just not a lot of good ones.

You are pretty close to Ohio, how about Clements? They did some barrel shortning and action work on my Marlin 1895 Cowboy. I left my 1895 Winchester stock.

Larry Mushghat at L&L hunting in Windber Pa. 814-467-8688 He can do the recoil pad ,rebluing and barrel cut. I can do the sight if he can't. I have done a lot of work on1895's. Think this out before you pull the trigger on it. The barrel might need to be reprofiled to look right because of the increased barrel taper will make it look goofy at the cut off point.

Hope this helps

Sharpshooter3040,

Have you put a receiver sight on the 95? One of my coworkers woudl ike to go this route but he is having issues with drilling holes as the instruction sheet details. He thinks the instructions will put the hole sin the bolt ways. I have not looked at it so cannot say for sure.

The sight is one of the repros from peabody rifle company.

The Peabody Model 21 sight is easy to install. Fallow the instructions and take your time. Strip it to a bare receiver first, and use a drill press. They take down close to all the other Winchesters. God bless John Browning for making things simple. The Peabody sight is the way to go. It looks good on the 1895. I think I will put one on my 1894 Win next.

Yes I have many times. Redfield made a descent one. The late model guns are drilled and taped for a lyman receiver sight I believe. As for a period reciever sight buffalo arms makes a reproduction Lyman model 21 sight by providence arms (thats the best way to go) the other sights work, but because of the bolt throw and the wide receiver the 21 is best. Drilling into the bolt ways won't hurt anything as long as the holes are in the flats and the burrs cleaned up. hope this helps
