And here's what they said: The most logical fix for the problem of my boolits being seated crookedly would not be with the seater plug installed in the dead length seater die. The technician recommended I order an oversized mandrel for my collet neck sizer as the seater plug supplied with the dead length seater die was fitted closely to the boollit I've been loading( c312-185-1r). The mandrell will cost $10 plus shipping. Does that sound like the way to go? Please advise before I order....in about an hour. Thanks:groner:

Yes, that is the way to go.
That is what I did when I started paper patching.
It makes all the difference in the world.

Yep, I had to order 2 for different dies I was getting the same problem with. It did make a world of difference and fixed the bullet issue.

I ordered one for my .30-06 die, a .308 mandrel. I recently ordered a .303 British mandrel for my .30-40 Krag FL sizing die. Call and ask what tsize the .303 mandrel is.
It is a stock part that runs about $4.

He said the 303 mandrel was 311 or 312. They will be custom sizing an 8mm mandrel to 213 for me.

correction...the 303 mandrell is normally sized at 310-311. The custom part will be sized at 313. He said the case mouth is automatically flared by the gas check.

Don't count on automatic flareing.
We are talking lead here, not jacketeds.

Uh-uh. With a .313 expander, allowing for normal "springback" of an unannealed caseneck, your inside neck diameter will run around .312-.3125. If you're sizing your boolits to .313 (or larger), you'll still need to (lightly) flare the case neck to ensure smooth seating.

Sorry.

I was thinking about .30 cal like my post. Thought you needed an over size .30 cal. I should have re-read your original thread.

I just called to place an order for the mandrel and they said it will 6 to 9 months!! I decided not to order. Now I'm back to square one! I want to be able to shoot alot this summer and there's gotta be a way I can get around this! Any good suggestions for plan B?

Have a friend with a lathe? Machine shop near by?

Would a 32cal mandrel work? It's only 314 and if you find it too large, you can always spin it in a drill and polish off some meat with the finest sandpaper.
