HOPEFULLY to drop out at .311"...
With that size, I'd like one, assuming it is still a GC boolit.

I'd be in for one of standard dimensions.

HEY YOU!
I will be by KVAT tomorrow afternoon to see you, instead of Wednesday!Just sent you an email.
I thought that .311" would be pretty much standard?
Maybe I can buy 2 of these moulds.

I think the last group buy was for a .314 Dia.
Could get 45 2.1 to let us run that one or I have
some original Lyman that we could copy.
Would be willing to run some in five cavity moulds
as soon as we get rolling.
Swede Nelson
I'd really like to see the original Lyman nose. I have a SAECO #315, and it looks like the previous GB was halfway between that and the Lyman nose. I think the more blunt nose is an asset.

The original GB run boolit. I've been running these in 308 semi-autos with very good results.

I would be in for one at .311 gas check. Don't care how many cavities. But not from LEE.

I'll go for one, 3-6 cavities GC ,as depicted by 45 2.1, but I don't want to wait for Lee to get it done , The Messiah may have all my guns by then.......not.

So do we need a poll for .311 Dia. Lyman round groove
or a 45 2.1 designed .314 Dia. ?

I size mine down to 0.311" with little trouble. It would be fine at a solid 0.312" to 0.313" as cast. No problem to change it to that diameter.

I can live with sizable to 311 and starting at 313-314 as I have a SMLE that might like it at 314.
I went to the Group Buy Order page and did not find this mold offered...
So I am wondering
--who is the honcho?
--what is the price?
--who is making the mold?
--how many cav. if Lee is not making this mold?
I bought one of these molds in the last LEE GB we had...But as luck would have it the mold blocks are misalined...I would be interested in getting in on this buy if the mold is going to be cut by some one other than LEE..

I would think .312 would be a good size. Can always size down a thou. or so, harder to go up in size. When deciding on how many cavities please consider us old farts with arthritis in our hands. Big molds are hard to squeeze and get heavy quick. Count me in for one.

Would be happy to run with it as soon
as I get a machine shop on line.
Should be next week.
Will post more information as I have it.

Has Mihec been approached about doing this mould? He's up and running, has reasonable prices, quick turn around, and throws in a top punch.

I would be very interested in one. My preference would be steel block, at least 2 cavity. .311 and/or .314.

I'm interested.
Of course, all depends on price vs. # of cavities vs. wait, etc... I'll keep an eye on this thread, though, and jump in, if it looks like it will come to fruition satisfactorily.

For the record, I was the guy who Honchoed the first .311407 Mod and speced the mold. 45 2.1 furnished the excellent drawings we sent to Lee. The finished product came out a thou or two larger on both the body and nose, but that is what you get when you deal with Lee. I notice that drawing posted above shows .314 on the body, but I have a copy of the original I sent to Lee and it shows. .312on the body.
My two molds both run .313 on the body and .302 on the nose with my version of #2 alloy. Others had their cast .314 with different alloys. IIRC the original specs, were .312 X . 301.
The original family of Loverin 30 calibers molds had a taper on the top three or four bands. My 311467 runs. .306, .305, and .304 on the top three bands. The purpose of this was to fill the throats on worn rifles. However, I found that seating this bullet required it be seated deeper with it's feet in the first, as none of my rifles could swallow that taper.
I had Buckshot make me some nose sizing dies in .300 and .302 and I sized the first few bands to fit the barrel, so those bands would ride the lands. I saw an improvement in accuracy in my rifles.
So, when I speced this GB, I did away with the taper on the top bands, and went for a straight .301 which came out .302 on the top two bands. I sized on the opportunity to get rid of that pesky taper. I have never hand any problem with .302 nose and top bands chambering. In fact, they engrave nicely. Loverin didn't intent to have those top bands ride lands, but that is why I tagged the mold 311407 Mod (modified).
I run these bullets through a .314 die in my Lyman machine to lube and seat the gas checks. I only lube the bottom three or four bands. I then run them through a Lee type push through sizer in my press to take them down to .313, .312, .311, .310 or even .309. I have not found this sizing to degrade accuracy.
Overall, the bullet turned out nicely with enough material to make it fit a wide variety of rifles. I have a Krag that runs .312 in the grooves and an Argentine Mauser with the same groove spec. This bullet has given me first rate accuracy in the six or seven 30 caliber rifles that I have fired it in.
The nose is very close, if not identical to the original Lyman version of .311407. We had to shorten the bullet one band to get it fit in the Lee blocks and IIRC they weight 165 - 170 grains. If you want 180 grains you will have to add that deleted band back and use blocks that will take a bullet of that length.
You guys can jack with the specs, if you want, but the original has worked well for me and others. After three times as Honcho, I decided to pass that honor onto others. Dealing with Lee and some whiney buyers can try a man's patience.
Anyway, the above is just for history, so you know why the mold was speced the way it was.

Another vote for a .314" base diameter.
I don't have any problems sizing my Lyman made Loverin bullets down from .314" to .311", but I can't seem to size my 311467 bullets from .309" to .311"

I am starting casting. would the .311 be best for my 30/30? I am new so i mite not be eligible for the GB. Still need to know the price for the boss

Johnly.... Lubricate the bullets FIRST and then size. That will do away with any of those itty bitty bands closing up on you. This is just about a must on a Loverine style bullet.
