any one shoot a gc bullet w/out the gc

I was thinking about RD 45-70 mold and was wondering if it can be shot w/out the GC at trapdoor speeds.

Done this with a 44/40 and a 25/20 with very good results. Jerry W

It can work or it can fail. Only testing will tell you. Go ahead and shoot some for groups and compare to the ones with GC's on them.

I've done this with thirty and thirty-five caliber stuff . I keep the velocity down but I've been able to get good accuracy with soft lead . It makes good ammo that I use for reduced targets at thirty yards or so .

I run full tilt loads, without gas checks. I also paper patch. Your 45/70 is the classic for paper patching.
