4759 will work great, try 18 gr, and go from there.
Never tried R-10, so can't say.

I've found that a number of powders work, but you'll have to try several to see what one your rifle likes the best. Powders like AA5744, AA2015, IMR and H4227, 4198 and the 4759 you mentioned all should work good. For a hot load, try 3031 or RL-7, they do well for me.

4759 is my most accurate powder in my old Winchester 38-55 (received in warehouse 1899).

I have the same mould and the same rifle, the Marlin 38-55 CB. Here is the best group I fired at 50 yards with a Williams receiver rear and a Lyman 17A front.

I haven't fired the rifle since, but back in December several of the groups I fired that day were just under or over an inch.

Powder was IMR 3031.

I have had the best success with 4759. I would suggest starting around 16 grains, though.

...............Welcome to the board bigieron. I have a nice old Marlin 1893 in 38-55:

I don't know what you intend on doing with your's, but a good inexpensive load that works very well is 16.0grs of 2400. Using the Saeco 225gr FNPB it will print 5 rounds at 50 yards into an inch or a tad more. Usually 3-4 rounds well less then an inch. This is with visually inspected boolits, thrown charges and nothing else fancy.

The left hand target above is the load mentioned.

In my Marlin Cowboy and Winchester 94 I use a 248 gr lyman LFP PB and 18 gr of AA 5744. This load will consistently shoot 3 inch five shot groups at 200 yards.

+1 for 2400

I shoot a 260gn bullet with 15gns 2400 in my Legendary Frontiersman - very accurate and mild to shoot.
