after stopping at every wheel store in town, i started on the dealerships. no luck at any but a small Mitsubishi dealership.

i asked the mechanic, he said yea we got some, hold on.[smilie=w:
he comes out with a double hand full. :cry:
i was kinda hoping for more, but i took what i could get.
theres a truck stop that does tires im going to drive out to tomorrow.

forget fleebay.
google recycle center or scrap yard and your city/state
buy scrap from the scrap yards for 20-40 cents a pound.
much better than banging your head against the wall trying to find the lead at dealerships.
i went to 15 dealerships and got 0 lead from any of them. they refuse to talk to you unless you know someone who works there...

the local scrap yard wants .60 cents a lb, he only has scrap roofing, which is soft. he sells scrap tin, but its pricey too.

Bought some pure lead sheeting (out of x-ray room) for 25 cents per pound yesterday from my local scrap dealer to make muzzleloader boolits, etc. He buys scrap lead for 10 cents per pound. Lots of profit there!
Pure lead is the hardest to find, IMHO. The easiest way to find any lead alloy is the scrap dealer, and yea, unless you know the guys at the tire stores, you have a hard time getting them to give something to a stranger (seen as non-customer).

ok, you guys who say all you can get is 60 cents a pound for WW, have motivated me to hit up my local scrap yards who have WW for 20-25 cents a pound. time to clean them out.. again.
and empty my wallet.. again

There are some deals on ebay right now. One seller has a BUY NOW auction for $34 / 50lb cleaned ingots with $11 shipping. That is not bad considering it is ready to go and you do not have to use your gas, propane and time to clean it and make ingots. Not many tire shops in my area and no scrap yards, so this is my only option sometimes.

just picked up 400# today for 40 cents a pound. not as good a deal as the 20 cents i paid when i bought a LOT more, guess i should have cleaned them out at that time(they had 1.5 tons)

I took a load of scrap steel to the local salvage yard from my welding shop last week, and used the money I got from the scrap (plus some!) to get a barrel of WW that weighed 1450 lbs. They charged me .35 a lb. So .40 a lb isn't bad, IMHO:mrgreen:

It took me a long time to find my best source of WW's, but I kept looking and talking to people and finally found a goldmine (or should I say a Lead Mine) of WW's! I found out about my source from the driver of a fleet/farm tire repair truck at a gas station! So keep on looking and talking to people, a good source is out there! Another thing to remember is that more and more weights are turning to zinc, steel and other non-lead materails so NOW is the time to lay in a huge supply for the future!

i guess 12 5 gal buckets is not enough.... yes.. its not enough, i need more :-)
just a couple more buckets and i will have a "lifetime supply"
im 26, so it is feasible to use that much up between slugs, buckshot, 9mm, and 45
and maybe paper patching 308 for the 1919 and FAL

at only 17 boolits per lb for my 45/70 i need ALOT of lead. plus im thinking of casting for my .40s&w, and thinking of getting a 10mm.

Just remember that anything you buy off fleeBay is not guaranteed not to have zinc in it. I'd rather pick up the WWs and smelt them myself to ensure my lead supply is not compromised.

I'm new to the Forum. Any thoughts on Rotometals http://www.rotometals.com/ ? Pricey vs. WWs, but you know what you're getting.

I tried getting WWs today at a few tire places, no luck. It is discouraging, but it is also my first day of really looking. I Googled scrap yards, and called a few - no one seems to have lead, except one that said "if we have it we do, if we don't we don't" (a real rocket scientist there). One good thing is that I found a good place to recycle aluminum cans and old rifle/pistol brass that I can't use. This recycling thing can be profitable (and, as long as I may visit a yard to buy lead, I might as well bring along something to sell).

So, any suggestions from you veterans of the WW wars?

you might want to sell the brass here, or other forums. you can probaly get more from it than the brass weight.
