New to the forum, but I have been casting for several years. a friend stopped by recently ,wanted to learn a little about casting boolits. He asked me a question I couldn't answer, I was casting gas check boolits, he ask what would happen if you shot them without gas checks with mild loads ?

I have the same question.

I cast some 311291 Lyman 169 grain gas check boolits and would like to know if anyone has shot low velocity 308 loads with any accuracy without gas checks.

Depends on the boolit and twist rate. You lose a drive band when you leave the check off. If it no longer matches what the twist wants, it can tumble. If the boolit still meets what the rifling needs it can shoot OK.
Then you open a path for gas to get past the base, just like a bevel base boolit. You might get leading.
Only way to know is to shoot some.

i do shoot some of my g/c boolits without them.
mainly slow loads with faster powder.

some don't work worth a crap ,some do.

This has been covered ad nauseum. Do a search and you'll have pages and pages of reading.
