how many here have tried any of these lubes?
i cast for mainly handguns shot between 800-1500fps
and my .308, and .45-70 from 1400-2400fps
im lookin for an all around good lube
i like the hard lubes, because i will cast and size many boolits, and then they sit around for a long time before they get loaded.(im lazy also!)
soft lube collects dust, dirt, cat hair, and what not.
any good ideas for witch would work best for me?
if a softer lube is the answer...i can deal with that.
his prices are too good to pass up
thanks again in advance fellas

I love the stuff. Carnauba Red is rated 2700+ and is the "hardest" he makes. It needs a heater to get it flowing smoothly but it isnt anywhere near as hard as the stuff you find on commercially cast lead boolits. It solidifies well but still has a bit of tackyness to it also. I also use his BAC lube in the cooler months here in PHX on some sub 1000 loads but Red is my go to lube.

I havent tried the 2500 or 50/50 but I am sure they are just as good as the rest he makes.

Plus one. Great stuff for getting CBs over 1800fps without fouling.

I highly recommend Lar's Carnauba Red. I heat it up with a hair dryer but it doesn't get all sticky and pickup assorted hair and dirt in the summer.

I use Lar's lubes and am very happy with them. Another for your consideration is Bullshop's Speed Green lube.

Either/or. If you like making stuff, you can make it yourself with some of Bullshop's universally miraculous Bullplate lube. Or you can slip him a few bucks and he'll ship some already made to you.

Speed Green or Lars White Label lubes, either one will do you absolutely fan-dang-tastic.

What would you guys recommend as a general all purpose Lars lube?
I'm talking from light 45ACP loads (3.8 grs Bullseye pushing a 452460 @ about 700 fps.) up to heavy 44 Mag and 45 Colt loads (1300 to 1500 fps in revolvers and a Contender with 14" barrels).
I also dink around with a 270 Win. I push that to maybe 2300 fps.

I only have one lubrisizer and I hate changing lubes!!
I was thinking either 2500 Plus or his BAC.

Right now all I have is Blue Angel and Rooster Red. Sizer is full of Blue Angel.

I use the carnuba red as my all around lube, covers light to heavy handgun loads and my rifle shooting as well.

I'm particular to the BAC. Larsen's Beeswax, Alox, Carnauba mix. Have taken it to 2100 fps no problems or leading. Currently running rifle at 1600-1700 fps handgun to 1100.

Wouldn't even think twice about running this lube faster.

Nope, and nope.
Love the stuff, after sizing I put them away in a box and they store, shoot, and everything else fine with very little smoke and very little to no gunky dirty stuff.

Glenn also makes a fantastic BPCR lube that looks like it will work in a ML. I know it will with a boolit but have to try it on a patch yet.

Gets a little stiff in the Upper Mid-west winters. Basement can get to mid 40's on the most brutal winter days. Hair dryer loosens things up, along with the woodstove. It is a little sticky but nothing like 50/50. Very tolerable. Love this lube!!

Buy one of those heat guns made for putting the covering on model airplanes. They get to about 400* and make short work of heating the lube sizer. Three times faster then a hair dryer.
They work great for shrink tubing and all kinds of other stuff. They are cheap too.

I am going this route. A post a while back said Harbor Freight has a good one cheap.

I use a stick BAC with about 3/8" slice of Carnuba Red melted in to firm it up a little and make it less sticky. Works well for me!

I've pushed my 303Brit up to 2000fps with lithium grease/parrafin @ 50/50 with no leading.
It was kinda smoky though. Let the experiments continue..muhahahah!

As far as I am concerned, Lar's Red, is the best thing since sliced white bread and dry toilet paper. All the other Lars is good stuff as well, but red works on everything!

I'm running out of the case of RCBS green lube I got a while back and I'm looking at lar45's lubes as well.

I would think the BAC gives you the best of both world? I don't need the High speed lube that carnauba red is as I don't shoot anything 2700FPS and in the short pistol barrels I have (5" 45acp 9mm etc) I wouldn't think it would work all that well at least to flow.

Are the guys who support the Carauba red using it in pistols/revolvers as well? rather is it good from 9mm luger on up or is that an area that the BAC should be used to cover? I'm leaning towards ordering a bunch of the BAC now but I'm still up in the air

I just ordered and received another dozen sticks of his red, and probably should have ordered 2 doz. Next thing you know, Obama and his anti's will become aware of cast, and start taxing Lubes. Cost to mfg. have already gone up, and he has had to increase prices. However, he is still the best for the buck, and in my opinion, the best lube on the market.

Can carnuba red be pan lubed? I don't have a lube sizer yet- I missed one for $40 last week. Just cant justify much more in these times.

Thanks,

Can carnuba red be pan lubed?

In my experience, Carnauba Red can not be pan lubed. It’s not a friendly lube for that purpose. I tried it and it wont release from the pan and sticks to everything.

However, I did buy a star so I can use CR. I use it in 38 and 45 colt around 700 FPS and have good results with it.

+1 for Carnauba Red, I use it for my 9mm, 38spl., .45 acp., 45LC. It flows great through a Star sizer or a Lyman sizer. It does need a little heat to flow in a sizer. Lightly tacky to the touch. Very low smoke when loaded with Hodgdon Clays. I never have leading in any of my pistols.

I use the CR and BAC with great results. Even here during the spring I have to use a little heat with the BAC for it to flow right. I store my sized and lubed boolits in those cheap plastic containers that have sealable lids from Wally World. I went to one of those (Everything is a Dollar Stores) a couple weeks ago and they had sets of three of the plastic containers for a buck. I bought several of them. My wife looked at what I had and instantly knew what it was for. Anyway, for storing boolits the plastic containers work great and you’ll never have to worry about dust or anything else contaminating your boolits.

On topic;
I use Red Carnauba for all of my pistol and revolver bullets with EXCELLENT results (great accuracy, less smoke than NRA 50/50 Alox/Beeswax, and less sticky than 50/50 and it is so inexpensive that I no longer try to make my own).

Off topic:
I used to use cigar boxes for sized and lubed bullets. When my supply dried up, I went to Dollar store plastic food containers. I have a variety of sizes but they all have one thing in common: Good lids that keep dust and dirt at bay. They are also quite durable and inexpensive. Did I mention "inexpensive"?

I Disassembled My Lyman 45 and Soaked it in Kerosene overnight. I also have read on here you can boil it to get the Lube out.

BAC is what I have in my sizer now and it works well, but in my opinion it does require a little heat to work smoothly. Plan on trying the Carnuba Red when the sizer runs empty again.

I have Pan Lubed with the BAC. Only way I could get it to release the pan was in those cheap throw away aluminum pie pans. Break part of an edge lose with a butterknife after it cools and turn it upside down and rub the bottom. Falls loose. Bulets push out of it easily after it cools. I imagine any of those silicone pie pans would turn almost any lube lose.

Actually, with a hair dryer or heat gun, it is no great trick to quickly remove ALL of the old lube in a lube sizer. Just dismantle the sizer and have at it...
