Finally, I found a 336a 1949 model in good shape. I'd like to put a globe front sight on it but don't know which to get. Here's the deal. The front sight is dove tailed to a screw on ramp, which to my eye is quite tall. Is it possible to buy a shorter screw on ramp and the mount a normal height globe sight? Even the shortest globe sight looks too tall to mount on the existing ramp.

If anybody can clue me in to the right set up I'd be appreciative. Then I can post an ad in the WTB forum.

Thanks a bunch guys
Kirk

P.S. I was in the local Sportsmans warehouse today and they were closing out several Lyman sights. They had 1. tang sight for a 1886 Win., 1. receiver sight for a Lyman great plains, 1. receiver sight for a Rem. 700 or savage 110 or Win. 70. These were all priced at $46.50. If anyone is interested,I can tell you where they are or buy and send them to you. Provided, they are still ther when I go back.

Why not just get the hood that works with that sight and ramp?

I have a Marlin 336A, that has a ramp, made in 1948 that I have a globe sight on. It is a Lyman 17AHB--.404" height. I use a Redfield receiver sight.

marlinman93: My rifle does have the hood already installed. What I'm after is a narrower front sight for more precise aiming.

rmb721: That is exactly the information that I needed.

Thank you both for your time and help.

I have a canadian cenntenial 1966 win carbine. Put on a williams rear and a .404 high lyman globe sight. I call it my 30-30 match rifle. measure the height of the insert in the ramp and see how high it is. Lyman makes a .404 and I think one size higher. Frank
