Leupold has a new riflescope out that has a large objective lens that can be mounted nearly right on top the action. How so you ask? Well the clever manufacturer figured out a way to make the bottom of the front bell and lenses (towards the rifle) with a big curve cutout configuration that gives the barrel alot of extra room when the scope is mounted low. Pretty neat, just wonder how that lenses does it, must be ground special.

Nah, I think the lens is special ground. Mirrors and more parts wouldn't help the durability.

Talking about this? I guess there is some andvantages, but putting big lens on it and then spoiling it? Well, why not. Allows lower mounting on rifles not intented for big scopes for sure:
