Anyone have any experience shooting cast in a .300 Savage? 40+ years of casting experience and this one has me scratching my head.

I picked up a dandy Model 20 Savage in .300 Savage (vintage 1923) and naturally I wish to experiment with cast bullets. The bases of all of the designs I own stick way below the neck into the powder chamber. Are the (mild) concerns I have regarding function/safety/accuracy valid? Anyone aware of a design- current or obsolete- with a relatively short driving band area coupled with a relatively long bore-riding nose specifically designed with the .300 Savage in mind?

Thanks,
Gary

the rcbs 165 silhouette boolit is the one you want.
should sit right at the neck junction or out a bit further, and slide in the bore just fine.
try 28 grs of 4895 and a filler [dacron or dryer lint].

The Lyman 311414 was designed for the 300 Sav. The older Lyman manuals will cover it.

BTW- Nice score on the 1920 Savage! Very, VERY nice rifle. Far ahead of it's time.
