Its been awhile. When we last chatted I was working on 45-70 loads. Now I have a 6.5 x 55 M96. This rifle shoots great with rem. fb 140 sp, but I miss casting and sticky lube.
However after reading through many post I see less then great results. Could anyone suggest a caliber / rifle that would yield better results with proven results.
Please don't misunderstand me, i'am not afraid of work and study to get a rifle to shoot well but lets face it there seems to be more down then up reports on the 6.5 x 55.
To be frank it saddens me, my carl g 1910 is a great rifle. Please advise what you think. I may be way off base.

THANKS :???:

..............The 6.5 Swede is no harder to get shooting cast well then most any other cartridge. You just can't shoot it as fast is all. I have zero accuracy issues with the 6.5x55 and cast.

I should add that there aren't a bunch of boolit designs for it. Lyman has 2, Saeco 1, Lee 0, and I don't recall if RCBS has one or not, but if they do that's 4 different ones. Oh, I forgot the Oldfeller design available from Mid-South. It's a SC for a 170gr slug so that's 5.

 Thanks Buckshot ! I like the sounds of that. I was looking at the two Lyman molds. Do you have any personal experience with 1 or both of these molds.

...............Neither. Only a NLA Lyman mould, the 152gr 268645. A so called (by them) Hi Velocity design. I believe they still show this design for the .270, 7mm, and 30 cal. The short bore riding nose has a lube groove or 2.

Charlie45,

I am starting to cast and reload for a 6.5 x 55 Swedish CG-63. I can send you some of the "Oldfeller design available from Mid-South" to try. If you want them sized, lubed, and gas checked it will take at least a couple weeks. Buckshot is making a sizing die for me and is just now getting my paper work. If you want them unsized, I can send them now.

They will be sized to .267 or .268.

:) I ordered the same mold (last one?) from midsouth myself. It should arrive in Vermont by the 14th. I'am going to start winth home made 40-1 then ww's ain and water dropped. Going to do 10 of each with 12 gr. of red dot to start and see what the paper looks like. Then we well see.
But thanks for the kind offer.
ps: I work in a machine shop and have use of everything after hours and weekends so I make my own sizers and .267 is what my m96 wants also. Keep in touch and we well see how this goes.

Charlie,

I think you might be too hot with 12 gr of red dot.... The Lyman book lists 7 to 9.5 gr for the 266469 bullet, which is 143 gr. My boolits dropped at 175 gr!

Looking at the reloading manual, I think I am going to use Unique and start about 7 gr. This might let me get a higher velocity before pressure signs show up. The manual lists 9.0 to 11.5 gr for the 266469.

................Ditto. I think you'll be happier if you start out at say 9.0grs of Unique and up to maybe 11.5 grs.

Thing is with the Swede and 140- 170 gr slugs is that maybe 1700 fps (or a tad more or less) will be about it accuracy wise.

Thanks guys for the heads up! Its the one that gave best results with my 44 Mag. revolver. and I did not find it any too dirty as some claim.
