I've wanted a Savage 12 BVSS for awhile now and this week, lo and behold, someone showed up at the range with one. He even let me put a few rounds through her. His is in 223 which would probably be my choice. I shot a nice cloverleaf of 3 rounds touching at 100. Shucks. Now I gotta actually go GET one![smilie=1: So you may see me asking about the arcane world of .22 bullet casting soon..... :-D

They are really nice rifles. Dad has one that we shoot p-dogs with, it has a few kills at better than 850 yards.

Just put the new Burris 8-32x44 on it, I think it is going with us this spring to Montana.

.............I have a M112 Savage in 223 I bought back in 1991 when they were re-introduced. Mine is the single shot, 26" bull barrel and a 12" twist. It does a superb job with cast. I spent a couple months hunting 'The' load for it. It did really well with most anything. One of the most accurate was the Sierra 63gr SMP and surplus WC852 powder. It was certainly not the speediest load by any means, but when it would stack 5 bullets on top of each other at 100 yards I was impressed.

The load I ended up with is the Sierra 53gr match (#1400) over 28.5grs of W748. It's a tad warmish but there is no arguing with the accuracy. It's an honest 1/2" shooter anytime, any day.

Hello.
I have one single shot too in 22-250Rem and my best load for it is with Sierra Varmint 60grs and 34,7grs of Vihtavuori N150. Precision is about an inch at 200 meters... A fine rifle ! :drinks:

I bought the long action (when I bought it there was only one action length), laminated stock in 22/250. It shot quite well but after more than just a few thousand rounds it wasn't quite as accurate any more so I got it re-barrelled to 22/250 Improved. Very interesting round. The last lot of handloads I tried was a few months ago. The Barnes 36 Grain Varmint Grenade, AR2206 Powder (can't remember hou much), and the top load scored 4480fps on the chrony. Not very accurate (4-5 inches at 300meters). I am going to try the same bullet with AR2208 (Varget).
