Some of you may remeber one year ago I started a water quench/hardness loss test. Well times up its been one year!
Results are =
44 cal SWC 240 gr in the oven @400F for 30 min, then Quickly water droped. At 2 wks it was Saeco 8.5 , now Saeco 7.

Same bullet water droped from a hot mold, 2wks Saeco 8, Now Saeco7.

And lastly, same bullet heat soaked in the oven at 450F for 1 hour/ then water quenched. 2 WKS Saeco 10, now saeco 8.

ALL ALLOY current WW+2%tin. . .....Buck

Interesting…. That confirms what I thought but was too lazy to test for myself.

I thought(problem?) water quenched went to ~18 bnh.

I have a saeco hardness tester, a rough side by side is:
Saeco 7=BHN11,
Saeco8=15 bhn,
Saeco9=Bhn18, and
Saeco10=Bhn22 Lino. ...Buck

Do you have any air-cooled boolits from the same lead batch for comparison?

AT time of casting Saeco5 BHN 9, After 2 weeks Saeco6 BHN about 11, No futher change in 1 year. But Saecos scale is fairly course. ....Buck

P.S.
The best part of this for me is the oven at 400 for 30 min. It basicly changes WW in to Lyman #2 for long periods of time, and its easy with no chance of melting. Same as water dropping but with all the boolits being the exact same. ....Buck

A few years back I ran some tests on air cooled WW plus tin. One batch had 1.25% added tin and the other had 2.5% tin. I measured them the day of casting and then at one week intervals. I found they lost hardness for about two months and then ceased to lose anymore. I can dig up the results, but they lost about 1 SAECO number in the process. I didn't go a full year..maybe I should have.
