I will be buying some moulds soon. I want to get three 38 caliber(125-170gr FN) and three 44(200-255gr SWC's) caliber moulds. I also want a 9mm, 40caliber and 45(acp 200-230gr) caliber mould. I am looking at a Lyman 358477 right now. It and the Lyman 356242 are the only two I know for sure I want. What else would you recommend I buy. I don't mind Lee moulds. I prefer PB moulds as well. Thanks. Jim

Out of all the boolits I cast, plus those with the shiny orange-looking hard paint on them, my best shooting, number-one boolt comes from my Lee TL158SWC mould. Don't know how I got so lucky with this mould--and it's a two-cavity at that--but ain't no way I'll ever get rid of it. No way, no how.

Thinking maybe I oughta see if Lloyds of London will insure it. . .

I also like the Lyman 429215--makes a great 44 Special boolit as well as a fun 44 magnum boolit; but you do need to gas check it even if you're not going to push the velocity. At least, I have to as I can tell a difference in consistency of accuracy with and without the gc's.

Consider the Lee 358-125-RF. Mine out shoots my gas checked, hard lubed Lyman 38156 in 38 Special loads. Both were shot with 4grs of Bullseye and the plain based Lee prints tighter groups for me. I haven't tried it personally but I believe I have seen others post here saying they have used the Lee 358-125-RF in 9MM. The Lee boolit cycles perfectly through my Rossi lever action rifle.

I have to admit to having a real paradigm shift after shooting the Lee 358-125-RF. I wanted something that would function in my lever action. I wasn't expecting it to out shoot my pet 38 revolver load but it did.

Do any of you use the Lyman 429360?

Don't overlook the Ranch Dog 190 in .359, and the Lee 310 gr. for 44. Both shoot very well in my handguns and rifles. The Ray Thompson blts from Lyman molds are great at higher vols, and the kieths in both cals are outstanding for plain bases at mod to high vols.
Just my thoughts!

10-4 on the Ranch Dog! also the LEE 310 just cast 100 of them to shoot in my Vetterli shot 50 yesterday at 50 yds all in the 10 and X ring.
And by the way Ranch Dog is real fast and service is A++

Lee has a 105g SWC mould that is a great little economy plinker. Accurate too and can be used in the 9mm as well.

If I had something other than a small framed 357 I night get the RD mould. I have the TLC311-165-RF and it casts an excellent bullet.

I do have the 429360, but have not cast any yet.

For many years the only .44 I've shot much was my 3" Charter Bulldog, which I load with the 429215 at a bit below factory level equivalents. That is truly a "carry much, shoot little" pistol. And I do understand your comment about the small frame .357.

The plan for this year is to cast some of the 429360 and a couple of other heavier boolits for use in my 4" M28 that was very recently converted to .44 Special.

What are you using in .44 Caliber?

I have a buddy that owns an old S&W model 29 and a Winchester Trapper. I don't own a 44 right now, but plan on getting another one soon. A Handy Rifle would be fine for now. One day I hope to get another Vaquero or 629.
