The old printing presses that haven't been used for a couple of decades are what used monotype, linotype etc. While a lot of printers & newspapers are going out of business or "consolidating" or simply shutting down their presses and sending the work to another newspaper/print shop right now, these usually are newer digital presses that don't use the old lead alloys.
You still might find some of these alloys at salvage yards or at the homes of old press operators.

I've been in printing for over 40 years.
The equipment that did use linotype were linotype, intertype and ludlow.
Most of these shops, as mine have moved on to CDP (computer to digital plate) where as a laser images a polyester plate for printing presses.
I'm lucky enough to have kept my linotype lead.
