I puzzled out paper patching quite a while ago, and have been fairly satisfied with my results when I made a good try. I haven't seen anything come along lately, except perhaps the cigarette rolling machine to be helpful beyond what I learned and experienced in doing, but I'm not sure about that new -fangled roller machine from personal use.

I first learned from the Phillip B. Sharpe book and currently have a copy of the third edition, Complete Guide To Handloading, published in 1953 which contains the original 1937 text. It occurs to me that many here have never seen it.

As a matter of helpfulness, I'll make 20 copies of the 6 pages involved, and mail them to the first 20 PM requests I get. I'll ask you to mail me a dollar for expenses when you get the copy. That's about half the actual cost for the copy center, an envelope, and Uncle Sammy. If the demand is larger, you fellows that get a copy volunteer here to repeat the process. I don't think Phil would mind as I understand all his notes and prospective writings were burned at his death.

This may help clear up quite a bit the veiled mystery and smoke I see in various places about paper patching. BvT

Gents, I'll just keep a running list in my PMs and post a #20 cutoff here if I get twenty.

If its OK, please post a "PM sent"here that will keep this alive and visible and give an indication of the number asked for. If it goes dead, I'll just make and send the copies out and make a noitification here also. BvT

Is the book still in print? If not you can go to any copy shop and have them make a digital copy as a .doc or .pdf file and put it on here where we could all read and ponder it. Copys and postage cost a lot, file sharing does not.

Hello, Paper Patchers.

I've got 20 requests so I'll ask for a stay of further requests. I'll mail out the copies monday next. My suggestion for future dissemination is above but others have made good suggestions in PMs on electronic distribution so feel free to volunteer here to distribute if the info is helpful to you.

I must say I have only used 100% cotton rag bond of the thin and medium varieties, I roll reverse negative image to the book's illustration, I make twisted patch tails extra long for convenience in rolling on a mouse pad now before cutting when the dry, and have fully satisfactory results nearly always, even using GG boolits. They must be near perfect though. I tend to use quite a bit of lead in the WW alloys.

I suggest if you find the pages helpful to go to your library and make an inter-library loan if neccessary to review the whole book. You will be amazed.

Good shooting, BvT
