I'm loading some 300 gr GC for a 454 revolver.. What are some medium to light loads using Unique, and some faster pistol powders? i can't seem to find any good data in any of my books. Any experience with any of these powders.

I shoot 10 grains of Unique, Fed 205 primer, under a RCBS270SAA or a Lee 45310RF with a gas check, chrono's around 1100 fps out of my SRH and is pleasant to shoot and clean.

I have used 9.5-10gr of Unique in my 454 with 255-325gr bullets works well.

My favorite midrange is 18 gr. of Bluedot and the Lee 320 gr. GC for about 1300 fps. in a 7 1/2" barrel. If that's too much, you can drop down to 13 gr. for about 1100 fps. If I want even less velocity, I use my Blackhawk convertible and leave the .454 at home.

I use 9.0 of UNIQUE, 205M primer with a 265 gr SWC Keith slug in Starline 454 cases. 980 fps in a 6" FA with very good accuracy.

10 grains of unique works in so many guns i often though hercules should change the name from unique to number 10

Thanks all, i'm loading for a friend who would like to shoot his 454 but refuses to spend $2 a shot for practice. He provides me with WWs. So i took the project on happily, to load him some nice shooting lead heads at a reasonable cost.
If i owned a 454 i would want to bring it to the range also, if anything just for a few bragging rights.
I loaded up some gc300 gr lead over 9 grs of Unique and a few on up to 10 grs. I also had him check all the throats and he found one tight cylinder, so he marked that one and i informed him not to use that cylinder until it can be fixed.
Range report is next.
