The bullet you use should be sized to be a snug fit to your chamber throats. Most companies offering sizers offer a variety of sizer die diameters so you can choose one closely matching the throat diameter. When the big light hits, the boolit WILL fit your bore, and shoot more accurately.

OK let me put it in different words...Whats the most common? .429 or .430 for a revolver.

430 is the most common. Some need to go to 431.

Depends, I am using a 433 in my Winchester 94 and SBH. .431 in my other 44's.

You really do have to find out what is needed before ordering. I size all of my 44 bullets with a .430, which barely touches most of them. It works for all my guns except a Ruger #3 in 44 Mag, which has a .433 bore!
If you are using a hard alloy, it will have some spring to it. In other words running a hard alloy through a .429 may end up with a .4295 bullet. Casting is more art than science. TRY TRY TRY. Eventually you'll find a combo that works and you'll have all that fun shooting while you are finding out.

I had my cylinder throats reamed to .431" and use a .431" sizer die made for me by Lathesmith for my star. Before reaming the throats measured .4285" on my S&W with a bore of around .429" .

I use .431 for my Rossi lever action rifle but go .429 for my and my son's S&W Model 29's. I can't remember which revolver, mine or my son's, the cylinder mouth miked .429 and the .431 boolits were all over the target. The revolvers shoot like their supposed to with .429 sized boolets. The rifle just shoots ok with .429 sized boolits but the improvement with the .431 sized make it worth the extra effort keeping them separate.

mtgrs737 who reamed your cylinders? I got a 45 Convertible Blackhawk for Christmas and both cylinder's mouths mike under .451, the ACP cylinder went as small as .449. I wrote Ruger about it apx 5 weeks ago and it appears Ruger is not going to reply.

Use .430 for 44 Special shot in CA Bulldog.

azrednk,

I sent my cylinders to The cylindersmith to be reamed, he does nice work at reasonable prices. You can find him here at:

I just got my 629 MG cylinder back from cylindersmith.com. Yes, he does nice work. So actually all (both) my .44s will be sized to .431".
