What is the best Lee mould to try and replicate 45ACP Ball ammo.
Use th Lee 452-200-swc now but want to cast for boolits as close to ball as possible
Was looking at the 452-228-1R , what do you think.

I am having pretty good luck with the Lee TL452-230-2R and Rooster Jacket tumble lube.

I've got the 452-228-1R and looks pretty close to ball ammo. I tried SWC in my semi-autos and they pretty much blow.

I don't think that you willl be happy with the LEE 452-228-1R
The TL452-230-2R would be a better choice as it's profile is closer GI ball ammo.
I run mine thru my RCBS lube sizer using BAC lube. Works great, no leading.

I shoot both the Lee 200 SWC and the 230 gr LRN boolits. If you watch the COL you should have no problems in standard .45's. My Taurus 1911 loves them both. I mainly use the 200 SWC as it makes cleaner holes in the paper for scoring but the LRN seems to be a mite more accuate IMHO.

As far as COL every gun is different. My 8 rd factory mags did not like the 230 LRN if they were too long. They hung up in the mags and caused malfunctions. However seating them a mite shorter solved that problem. The old colt .45 Auto mags which I bought at a gun show did not have a problem with the SWC's

I usually use Clays, Accurate #2, Unique or Bullseye for the slabsides.

Another +1 for the TL230RN.

I don't like the 228RN because I have to seat it deeper than I prefer for it to feed reliably. Traded it (the mould) off.

I'm one of these semi-rare types that not only doesn't mind tumble lubing, but prefers it for a number of my boolit/round combinations.
