I've been lookin' at some molds on evil-Bay.
I notice that a few Lyman and Ideal molds do not appear to have any vent lines on the face of the block.
Were some molds made that way or have these molds been messed with?

Thanks

The older Ideal molds did not have vent lines. It was not uncommon for the owner to cut (scratch) vent lines. I own several of these old molds and they cast mighty fine boolits for me.

The older Ideal moulds had no vent lines. I have three or four that cast just as good or better than the vented moulds. The old machinists at Lyman knew how to make a mould with the proper tolerances...not like today. I wouldn't worry about it if one happens to come your way./beagle

Thank you gentlemen, for putting my mind at ease.
I get really nervous and/or suspicious of things I see on evil-Bay!

I've got an Ideal 280411 with no vent lines and the boolits just fall out of the cavity. No handle tapping or anything. One of the best casting moulds I own. Also have a couple the previous owners scratched lines in and I see no difference between them and factory vent lines.
