Here are two of my favorite 45 ACP boolits from Lee. A 210 grain RNHP and and the 230 grain TC.

It is a Lee mold, discontinued now, and while a pain in the butt to use it makes a very accurate boolit that so far seems to expand well. Makes over 1000 fps in my S&W 1911.

I like the polish on the TC.
They look like good molds!

It cast a 357 boolit that I used to make Major in a 38 super in the mid 80's.

Like he says a pain to use but does make good boolits.

Look at the lee 457 HB mold and think of the captured HB pin as a Hp pin, that's what i have.

I made some up at 1.18 recently, but am not sure is that is the best length. I have been wondering what other folks were doing. I will be shooting them in a 1911, and was looking for a starting point for testing.

Love the TCs. That's all I run in my 1911A1.

Howdy, Y'all
I am new to casting and the Lee .542 230 gr TC is my is first mold. I am having a little trouble getting them to feed in my SA Trophy Match. The slide does not want to go fully into battery. I guess that the Match chamber must be a little tight and I need to seat them a little deeper than 1.20.
Any advise or suggestions would be much appreciated.

I love the round nose HP. Where can I get hold of some of those?

How are you crimping the finished rounds?
You might try a Lee Factory Crimp Die. I use one for all my .45 ACP loads and it has worked well.

Would you guys with your FCD do me a favour. Measure a bullet before you seat it. Seat the bullet and run the cartridge through your FCD, pull the bullet and measure it again and report back here your measurments. I would appreciate knowing the results.

Well I did as you asked. I measured 3 boolits 1) cast 230 gr RN 2) 230 gr Rainier plated and 3) 230 gr winchester FMJ. My measurements are before seating and running thru FCD, sized casing with boolits seated, and boolit after being pulled.

lead = .453 ~ .472 ~ .452

win FMJ = .450 ~ .470 ~ .450

rainier = .452 ~ .472 ~ .451 1/2 (was right between 451 and 452)

kinda intersting

Remember I just ran it thru the FCD as I have it set. It can be adjusted for more or less crimp.

Thanks. My concern with the LEe FCD is that when it smooths out the case it must resize the bullet cauisng the bulge. I size my .45acp bullets .452 and, depending on the case, will get a slight bulge from the bullet seating. This I regard as normal due to the fact jacketed bullets are sized .451. When you run the same bullet throough the Lee FCD to smooth out the bulge you must be resizing the lead bullet down to something less than .452, an effect I don't want.

Take Care

Hey Curly,
How are you lube/sizing that 230 TC? I bought the same mould and plan on running the bullets through a lube sizer.

I'm trying to figure out which top-punch to use. Best guess so far is a Lyman 460.
